Marie McDermed passed away on May 16, 2026, at Claridge Court in Prairie Village, Kansas. She was born to Al and Juanita Meyer on August 3, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Marie grew up in Fairway, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School (she always said the "original" Shawnee Mission High School, not Shawnee Mission North) and Emporia State College.

Shortly after college she married Darrell McDermed. They loved to travel, and found their two favorite places, Disney World and Sanibel Island. They would religiously vacation there each year.

Marie found her perfect place to work and love, the Kansas City Missouri Public Library, as a children's librarian. She retired after working there for 42 years.

Marie was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After her retirement she became very active in the LWML and volunteered at the church office. Her favorite activity was the church quilting group making quilts for those in need of a warm blanket.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell, and her sister Martha Miller. She is survived by her sister, Alberta Bailey (Jack) and her brother, John Meyer (Gail).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 West 62nd Street, Mission, KS 66202. Visitation will begin at 10am followed by the service at 11am. A private burial will take place following the service.
