Albert F. "Fred" Schaber, a beloved father, grandfather, and craftsman, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 72. Born on August 7, 1954, in Ottawa, Kansas, Fred lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his many interests.

Fred's early years were characterized by a burgeoning talent for craftsmanship, which he demonstrated by earning second place in a Kansas statewide competition for a casket he built while still in high school. This skill laid the foundation for his varied career, which included roles as a truck driver and carpenter. His work was a testament to his commitment and attention to detail, qualities that he carried into every aspect of his life.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Fred had a passion for model airplanes and cars, and he was a regular visitor to the Plaza and Westport Art shows. His artistic inclinations extended to calligraphy, where he found joy in the beauty of the written word. A man of diverse interests, Fred was deeply engaged with his German heritage, dedicating time to studying books, movies, and articles on the subject. He even made it a personal goal to learn a new German word every day. Additionally, Fred was knowledgeable in firearms, a testament to his wide-ranging curiosity and expertise.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Schaber and Bonnie (Vickrey) Schaber, as well as his siblings, Robert Schaber and Alberta Schaber. He is survived by his devoted domestic partner, Connie Best; his loving children, Jonathan Schaber, Matthew Schaber and his wife Violeta, David Schaber, and Robert Schaber; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Schaber Jr., Ty Schaber, Eli Schaber, and Mason Schaber. Fred also leaves behind his faithful feline companion, Walt.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home, located at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Fred will be laid to rest on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, 218 N Battlefield Rd, Mountain Home, AR 72653.

Fred's legacy of craftsmanship, curiosity, and love for family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
