Gary Ohmes

On Friday January 1st, Gary Ohmes passed away at the age of 68. Gary was born in Kansas City, KS to Ray and Loretta (Roos) Ohmes, the fourth of ten children.  He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service and worked at Wal-Mart an additional 18 years where he met Karen Smith and on January 4, 2014 were happily married throughout the rest of his life.

Gary had a deep love and strong relationship with his two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Ohmes.  He spent their youth coaching them in many sports and was always there for them throughout their lives.  He also supported his granddaughters in their sports and activities and loved being an active part in their lives as well.  Faith and family were Gary’s first priority and he never missed an opportunity to get together with his loved ones.  He relished this time together and was well known for his story telling and antics which would have everyone laughing.

Gary had a passion and positive attitude for life that was contagious.  He could easily be located simply by the sound of his laugh.  He also enjoyed eating, which paired well with his wife Karen’s passion for cooking.  He enjoyed the trips they would take, eating at new restaurants and exploring the country.  His laugh, smile and perfectly combed hair will be missed by family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Loretta Ohmes, Sister Carol Stoway and Brother Edward (Susan) Ohmes.  He is survived by Wife Karen Ohmes, Sons Steven (Sarah) Ohmes and Jeffrey Ohmes and Granddaughters Alexandria, Natalie and Kylie Ohmes. Step-Sons Brian (Rebecca) Glover, Adam Foster and Nathan Foster, Step-grandsons Justin Glover, Ian and Nikolas Foster. Brothers Keith (Elyse), Kenny (Kathy), John (Darla) and Tom (Joanne) Ohmes, Sisters Debbie (Bob) Luttrell, Beverly (Larry) Brunner and Paula (Chris) Brownlee and many nieces and nephews.

I am very sorry I won’t be able to attend the services for Gary or the visitation. I know this is very hard but always remember that Gary will always be with you in your heart and your memories and all the joy you shared together. My deepest condolences to all of you on your loss of such a wonderful partner.

    With much love,

  18. Sharon Ring Says:

    Dear Karen,

I am sorry for not being able to find the words to help ease your sorrow. I hope only the best for you now and in time to come.

The Ohmes’s are my cousins that lived across the street when we were growing up, Gary came from a family of excellent quality, and it showed in him by the outstanding man he came to be. There are so many positive words and ways to describe him, we all lost an individual that was one of the best however you came to know him.

I once told Gary he was bilingual in English and hilarious, we then both laughed together.

You will be missed by so many people

    Sharon Ring
