Deryl Franklin Hancock

Deryl Hancock, 60, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on May 13th, 2019 at Kansas University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Deryl was born in Omaha, NE on November 8th, 1958 to Robert and Wanda Hancock. He grew up in Humboldt, NE and lived in Shawnee, KS for the last 18 years. He graduated from Humboldt (NE) High School where he played football, wrestled and enjoyed life to the fullest. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He enjoyed problem-solving, particularly while working as an engineer in process systems and forensic engineering in Sabetha, KS and the Kansas City area. In 2014 he fulfilled his dream of having his own business and acquired Technical Equipment Company, in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Deryl served as a Staff Sergeant in the NE Army National Guard as a Flight Medic for the 24th Medical Company and completed a tour with Detachment 1, 1267th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) in Desert Storm near the Persian Gulf in 1991.

Deryl met Jan in the Nebraska Army National Guard, and they were married on August 2nd, 1984, in Lincoln, NE. They lived there for 13 years and started their family.

Deryl was a college football fan, especially Nebraska Cornhuskers. In his free time, he enjoyed attending sports events, especially when family and friends were participants. Many weekends were also spent playing pitch with dear friends and celebrating events together. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles.

Deryl was preceded in death by his parents; Bob and Wanda Hancock, sisters Ranae and Janie, and brother Bob.  He is survived by his wife, Jan; sons, Kyle, Tyler, and Casey; brother John & wife Mary, mother-in-law Bonnie Saathoff, sister-in-law Pat Saathoff, brother-in-law Bob Saathoff & wife Amy; and nieces and nephews.


A visitation will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203 on Friday, May 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 W. 62nd St., Mission, KS 66202 on Saturday, May 18th at 10:30 AM.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to the Cancer Research Institute. Donations may be made in memory of Deryl at
