Carol A. Ritt

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Carol Ritt passed from the effects of Covid-19 on Wednesday, Oct. 7th, at the age of 69.  Carol was born on October 29th, 1950 to Paul & Mary Hardesty.  A wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband Joseph Ritt, her sons Gary (Jenniffer), Greg (Shelley), and Gene (Melissa), daughters Holly (Jeffrey) and Sabrina (Cameron), along with her brothers Paul, Mike, and Bruce. Additionally, survived by her 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Carol dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She was happiest with a well-stocked pantry and her family crowded around the dinner table.

Mom was a courageous, confident, and caring person who always liked a good laugh.  Her hugs would make you feel instantly at home, took away any gaps of time, and would give comfort for the deepest troubles.  She was the life of the party that could make a new friend anywhere she went. Extraordinarily strong and only shared her fears to a limited few. Mom enjoyed cooking, baking, and furthering her education and will be most remembered for her Christmas trees filled with presents, cookies in old popcorn tins, and fresh baked strudel wrapped in foil.

Carol’s family would like to acknowledge KU Med Center, and their staff of healthcare practitioners, where Mom spent her last days. This group of professionals continually kept the family informed of her current condition and fought for her when she no longer could.

Services

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Carol’s family has decided to postpone her services.  Her visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 23rd at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203; where the rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m.  Carol’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 24th at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 21650 W 115th Ter., Olathe, KS 66061.  She will be laid to rest in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Rd Lenexa, KS  66215.  Please be mindful for the visitation that Amos Family Funeral Home is only allowing 45 people in their chapel at a time and masks and social distancing will be required.

Contributions

Flowers are appreciated but Mom would have requested donations be made to The American Lung Association (action.lung.org or 1-800-LUNGUSA) to support further research in lung cancer and COVID -19, as Mom suffered from both.

    Dear Ritt and Pickardt family,

I share my sincerest condolences with you, prayers for peace and healing during this time. Though it has been a very long time since the days when we all came together as high school friends, I will always remember the way Carol welcomed all of us into her home and how she treated us with such kindness.

I will miss her posting illustrations of her faith in God on Facebook and will take comfort in the fact that she is with Him in heaven.

    God bless all of you.

  3. John Foley Says:

Holly, Gene, Greg, Gary, Joe and everyone else, we were saddened to hear of the loss of your mom and wife. I have fond memories of her through high school and after. She always welcomed me into her home and made me feel like one of her sons. Especially when she would admonish me for doing something stupid and then laugh about it. I look back on those times with fondness. All of you have lots of great memories to share with each other about her. We will keep you in our prayers.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Carol was amazing – so warm and funny. I’ll never forget the escapades from one of our trips to Hawaii…

We will all miss her, yet I believe that she has gone on to a new experience filled with love from family passed, and is with the Creator.

    Thinking of you,
    Susan
