The Amos Family offers a wide range of options for monuments and markers. Some cemeteries require flat bronze markers while others allow any type of monument a family wishes to install. No state laws require the use of an outer burial container or burial vault. Most cemeteries do require an outer burial container for cemetery maintenance purposes. The outer burial container prevents the grave from collapsing and if sealed, protects the casket.

In most cases, embalming is not required by law. However, if you choose a service with viewing, embalming may be required. We offer the option of refrigeration to those families who choose not to have their loved one embalmed. The vast majority of families who choose burial still choose embalming.

We encourage families to be as involved as they want to be. Many families wish to see the casket or container placed into the crematory and others want to witness the entire process. Some cultures and religions participate in the process as a part of the funeral ritual. Our crematory has a viewing room where families can witness the process. All families are welcome to inspect our crematory even if they do not want to witness the process. Most people still bury the urn in a cemetery and mark the grave. Other options include placing the urn in a columbarium, home retention, or scattering. When scattering the cremated remains, be sure that you are observing local laws. Also, some people who scatter their loved one’s remains choose to keep or bury a small portion. Many keepsake options are available for this purpose.

A casket is not required for cremation. If a family chooses a service with viewing, caskets are available for purchase or you may rent a ceremonial casket. The minimum container required for cremation is an alternative container. The alternative container is made from wood and fiberboard and is necessary for placing the deceased into the crematory.
