About Us

In May of 1946, E. Paul and Hazel Amos opened their family business in Shawnee, Kansas. In 1946, Shawnee was a little community of 800 people in Johnson County on the outskirts of Kansas City. Their son, Gene Amos, joined the family business after serving in the U. S. Navy. Not long after returning, he met and married Margaret Zoll Amos. In 1976, Gene and Margaret’s son, Gregg, joined the family business and today leads one of the most successful funeral homes in the Kansas City area.

The Amos Family is proud to be a locally and family owned funeral home. Corporate policies do not inhibit our ability to serve the families who place their trust in us. We are proud to be a member by invitation of the Selected Independent Funeral Homes. Selected Independent Funeral Homes was formerly NSM (National Selected Morticians). Membership is limited to one independently owned funeral home representative from each service area. We consider it a privileged to be chosen to represent the Kansas side of the Kansas City metro area. We are also members of the Kansas Funeral Director’s Association the National Funeral Director’s Association and the Cremation Association of North America.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Are you family owned?

We are proud to be family owned for over 60 years. Three generations of the Amos family have served our community. As a locally owned family funeral home, we answer to our client families, not a board of directors in another city. When choosing a funeral home, an important question to ask is; who owns the funeral home?

    Do you own a crematory?

Yes. Since 1979, the Amos Family has owned its own crematory. Having owned our own crematory for so long, we have established ourselves as the leader in innovative cremation services. In 2009, we opened our new crematory addition. The new crematory has a viewing room where people may witness the cremation process if desired.
