Carl Wesley Eubank

Carl W. Eubank, a lifelong Shawnee resident passed away April 4 at age 94.  Carl was a WWII veteran of the 442nd Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force, European theater as an aerial engineer on the C-47 cargo aircraft.  He participated in both the D-Day invasion at Normandy and the later invasion of Holland carrying paratroopers and towing gliders into battle.  His unit also ferried both German prisoners of war and concentration camp survivors to England at the end of the war.  During his WWII service he was awarded the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster and the European Theater ribbon with Silver and Bronze Battle Stars.  He was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict serving at Biggs Air Force Base, El Paso, TX from 1951-1953.

 

Returning to civilian life Carl married June Fanning in 1946 and went to work for the Procter & Gamble company in Kansas City, KS where he stayed until retiring in 1980.  After retiring, Carl and June traveled extensively including a trip back to Normandy to see the national cemetery and to honor the loss of his best friend, William (Bill) Fanning and his brother Lloyd Eubank.

 

Carl is survived by June, his wife of 72 years, and his daughter and son-in law Carolyn  and Steve Van Sickle of Albuquerque, NM, his son and daughter-in-law David and Gail Eubank of Golden, CO, and two grandsons, Brett Eubank of Denver, Colorado and Justin Eubank of Sacramento, California.     

 

Graveside Services

Graveside service will be 1:30 pm Tuesday, April 10 2018 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, KS.
