Samuel James Owens

Samuel James Owens, 87, DeSoto, KS passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at the Hillside Village of DeSoto. Samuel was born June 28, 1930 in Albuquerque, NM to Carl and Pauline Owens. He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Samuel worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1988.

Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Owens on July 1, 1989. Survivors include his two sons, James (Deborah) Owens and William Owens; two daughters, Delores Steen and Sandra Haile; three brothers; two sisters; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Service and Visitation

Visitation will be 11-12:00 pm, followed by a funeral services at 12:00 pm Friday, Sept. 15 at the Amos Family Funeral Home; burial in Monticello Union Cemetery.

    Sending our condolences to Sammie’s children & Alice. I remember your dad being our mailman when I lived in Merriam with my parents Buster & Dorothy Beard. Your dad always had a smile . I remember coming out to Monticello , Your Dad & Mom owned horses & they let us ride them. The man above received another Angel. with deepest sympathy: Chuck & Judy Hartman.
