Don Lee Bowman

Don Lee Bowman, 60, Mission, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012.

 

Don was born December 27, 1951,  in Sydney, Nebraska, to Curtis and Jean Bowman. He was a retail manager at the Hy-Vee Gas Station in Mission, Kansas, for 10 years.  He was a member of Legacy Christian Church. Don enjoyed college basketball and was an avid wood-worker, building furniture for family and friends.  He loved reading the Bible and especially loved being Papa to his grandchildren.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughter, April Abbott and husband, Steve, Merriam, Kansas; son, Travis Bowman and wife, Angela, Olathe, Kansas; sister, Lugene Wilemon and husband, F.M., Broomfield, Colorado; grandchildren, Jackson Bowman, Zoey Bowman, Audrey Abbott and Christopher Abbott; and many other family and friends.

 

Memorial Service

 

Memorial service will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Legacy Christian Church, 10150 Antioch, Overland Park, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Thursday at the church.

June M. Harp

June Marie Harp, 88, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Wedsday July 25, 2012, at her home.   She was born July 15, 1924, in McAlister, Oklahoma.  On March 18, 1946, June married Herman Harp.  She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Graveside services will be 12 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.  June can be visited at the Amos Family Funeral Home from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29, 2012.

Grady Joseph Franck

Grady Joseph Franck, 6 mos., of Overland Park, passed away Wednesday July 25, 2012 at Children’s Mercy Hospital.   Grady was born January 12, 2012 to Nathan and Amanda Franck.  

 

He is survived by his parents, his sister Emmery; maternal grandparents, Roger and Kris Surber; paternal grandparents, Janet Franck and fiancé Greg Wescott; Roger and Pam Franck; Aunt Ashleigh George, Uncle Caleb and cousin Gibson; Uncle Peter Franck and Aunt Sarah; and Aunt Julie Franck.  Grady is also survived by his Godparents Dr. Jennifer McKenney, Shawn Neill and Sheldon Neill. 

 

 

Services

 

Mass of the Angels will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary.  Burial will follow Mass at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa.

Noralee Nadine Smith

Noralee Nadine Smith, 53, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Menorah Medical Center. 

 

Noralee was born October 12, 1958 to Amie and Leonard Smith in Onaga, Kansas.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1976. 

 

Noralee is preceded in death by her father Leonard. 

 

She is survived by her mother Amie; three sisters, Bernice Wassell and husband Larry; Martha Smith and Ella Smith; two brothers, Raymond Smith and wife Debbie; James Smith and wife Laura.  Three nieces and three nephews also survive her.

Gloria Jean Gerber

Gloria Jean Gerber, 78, of Kansas City, Kansas, died July 21, 2012, at Providence Medical Center.

 

Gloria was born January 16, 1934, to Kenneth and Gertrude Howard in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a retired machinist for TWA.

 

She is survived by her loving husband Eamiel; sons, Jim Gerber, and Jeffrey Gerber; daughter, Julie Gerber; five grandchildren, Amanda Gerber, Alyssa Gerber, Alexa Gerber, and Jackson Gerber; sister,  Marg Eisingminger; and brother Bob Howard.

 

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marylou Luce, brother Richard Howard.

Norman Eugene Keech

Norman Eugene (Norm) Keech passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House. 

 

Norm was born March 6, 1930, to Allen Earl and Tressa Mae (Whicker) Keech in Shawnee, Kansas.  He graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School, and served in the United States Air Force, where he learned early day data processing, beginning with IBM cards.  Norm retired from Farmland Industries as a security analyst in data processing in 1993. 

 

He was an active member of Lenexa United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, a Stephen Minister, choir member, and had served on many committees over the years.  He recently developed a disaster plan for the church.

 

Norm was a lover of Kansas history, and was an active member of the Lenexa, Overland Park, and the Shawnee Mission Indian Mission Historical Societies, and had served as treasurer for all.  He helped to computerize artifacts for the Overland Park Historical Society.  He helped organize information to aid in research in the library of the Shawnee Mission Indian Mission.  Norm also co-authored a book on the history of Overland Park. 

 

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Elwood and Kenneth.  Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carolyn (Jacob) Keech; sister Ernestine Presley of Wichita, Kansas; sisters-in-law Billie Jean Keech, Lena Yanney, and Shirley Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Celebration of Life Service

 

A Celebration of Life will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Lenexa United Methodist Church.

George Wesley Garnett

George Wesley Garnett, 88, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012, at his home.

 

George was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. He was a supervisor with the Englewood, Colorado Parks and Recreation Department until his retirement.

 

George was preceded in death by his wife, Deliece Garnett and daughter, Melanie Russo.  Survivors include sister, Marie Brown, Kearney, Missouri; two daughters, Mavis Czarney, Colorado and Dolores Welch, Shawnee, Kansas; grandson, Don Roberts, Kansas City, Missouri; two granddaughters, Teresa Lanker and Deliece Stumpff, both of Shawnee, Kansas; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

John H. Arnold

July 23, 2012

John H. Arnold, 83, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully July 21, 2012, in the loving presence of his family at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. 

 

Born September 27, 1928, to Robert and Roxie (Houtchens) Arnold near Deepwater, Missouri, John was a depression-era Missouri farm boy, an Army veteran of the Korean War who fought at the intense three week battle a the Chosin Reservoir, a Safeway truck driver for 37 years and a man called by God to preach the gospel in a pulpit career that spanned 35 years.  Pastor John was ordained in 1967 at London Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, and he ministered at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Weston, Missouri, First Baptist Church of Greenwood in Shawnee, and Victory Baptist Church in Tonganoxie, Kansas.  His compassion to see people brought to the saving grace of Jesus Christ affected many souls over the decades.

 

John leaves behind his wife of nearly 63 years, Bea; his son and daughter-in-law John and Laurie Arnold; his son Keith Arnold and his grandsons Richard (wife Carlene) and Corey Arnold, all of Shawnee; brother Robert Arnold of Clinton, Missouri; sister Rose Zella Adams (husband Charlie) of Harrisonville, Missouri; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Florence Wisner of Blue Springs, Missouri; along with many nephews and nieces.

 

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, including doctors, nurses, clinical aides, radiology techs and respiratory therapists for their patience and compassion in caring for John and his family.  Dad’s mind is now at rest, and he is in the presence of his Savior.

Friends may call from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Wednesday., July 25, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory, with funeral to follow the visitation at 10:00 a.m.  John will be laid to rest in a private family graveside service at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in western Shawnee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s name to City Union Mission, 1100 E. 11th Street, Kansas City, Missouri.  John thought a great deal of this ministry for the homeless.

 

 

 

Margaret Murray McKechnie

July 23, 2012

Margaret Murray McKechnie, 92, of Roeland Park, Kansas, died July 21, 2012.

 

Margaret “Marge” was born December 4, 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Margaret Reisen Murray. She was the second of three daughters. She grew up in Dover, New Jersey, and eventually relocated to Kansas City in 1950.

 

She had six children and was a founding member of St. Pius X Parish in Mission, Kansas. Marge worked as a school secretary for twenty five years with her last appointment at Shawnee Mission North High School where she was until her retirement in 1994.

 

She was active in her parish with the Legion of Mary and the women’s club. Marge was a devout Catholic, loving mother, and exceptional friend. She enjoyed the Kansas City Royals, playing bridge, and traveling to California to visit family. She will be sorely missed by many.

 

Preceding her in death are her sons Bill and Joe.  She is survived by four children: Ann, Carmel Valley, California, Robert (Pat), Kansas City, Kansas, Jim (Melissa), Goleta, California, and Ed (Pam), Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren: Molly and Scott (Bill), Michael and Alex (Jim), Matthew and Ethan (Ed), and Patrick (Joe) and daughter-in-law Cynthia (Joe);  siblings, Rita Murray, Rock Island, Illinois and Terry Beers (Hal), San Jose, California and their four children David (Deirdre), Marybeth (Bill), Dan (Katie), and Maggie (Antoine).

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas.  A Rosary will be recited at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012.  Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas, following the service.

 

 

Patrick Bernard McGraw

Patrick Bernard McGraw, 71, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home.

 

Pat was born October 1, 1940, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to Eugene and Hope McGraw. He attended Pittsburg State College and the University of Missouri Kansas City.  He was a pharmacist at the University of Kansas for 30 years and later worked at Osco, Kats and CVS.

 

Pat was survived by his wife, Elizabeth McGraw; two sisters, Margaret Stwalley, Wichita, Kansas and Kathleen Sells, Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Robert McGraw, Wichita, Kansas; two step-daughters, Candi E. Ditty and Shauna Gibson; step-son, Terrence Gibson; step granddaughter, Amber Germain,all of Overland Park, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas; entombment in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Lenexa, Kansas.
