Pearl L. Trackwell

December 31, 2011

Pearl L. Trackwell, 89, of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Shawnee, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas.  

 

Pearl was born January 31, 1922, to the late Cecil and Elsie Johnson in Slater, Missouri.  She married Leo E. Trackwell on April 16, 1941.  He preceded her in death on September 13, 1997, after 56 years of marriage. 

 

Pearl was a beautician, and operated her own salon, Pearl’s Cut and Curl.  In addition to managing her salon Pearl was a co-owner of a fuel-hauling business with her husband, Leo. 

 

She is survived by her daughter Carol Schwartz and husband Rick; a son Terry Trackwell, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. 

 

Graveside Service

 

Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2012, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. 

 

 

 

Susanne Alter Goslin

December 30, 2011

Susanne Alter Goslin, 54, of Shawnee, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011. 

 

Susanne was born December 19, 1957, to the late Richard and Shirley Alter in Omaha, Nebraska.  Susanne graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.  Susanne enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and collecting cookbooks.  Susanne was active with the German-American and Irish American Club of Shawnee.  She was an avid traveler and enjoyed trips to Mexico with friends.  Susanne was a loving mother and aunt; she was active with her nieces’ Christian Youth Rodeo Association. 

 

Susanne is survived by her sons, Nicholas and Connor Goslin; three sisters, Roxanne Alter and husband Don, Kristianne Wheeler and husband Shawn and Kyndalanne Lyons; two brothers, Frank Alter and wife Roxane and Andrew Alter; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee. 

 

 

 

Alfred D. Larson

December 28, 2011

Alfred Daniel Larson (June 15, 1933 – December 28, 2011) was born the youngest child of five to Carl Oscar and Rose Larson in Kewanee, Illinois, on June 15, 1933.  He attended Visitation Catholic Grade School and Kewanee High School.  He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. 

 

He met Dolores “Skelly” Larson while attending Illinois State University where he earned his Bachelors in Education.  They married on August 31, 1957.  Al attended University of Illinois receiving his Masters in Education.  Al attended University of Kansas to obtain his Doctorate in Education.   After receiving his Doctorate degree from the University of Kansas, he was offered a position as a professor teaching graduates how to teach the hearing impaired.  Dr. Larson has taught in East St. Louis, Decatur School District, Illinois State in Normal and the University of Kansas Medical Center.   He retired from University of Kansas after teaching for over twenty years. 

 

Al and Skelly moved to Kansas for him to obtain his doctorate degree.    They built a strong family foundation with nine children, twenty-one grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Their family is based in their Catholic faith as they are active parish members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission, Kansas.    At St. Pius, Al was a Knight of Columbus member, 4th Degree and a member of the Legions of Mary.  They have resided in the same house in Mission, Kansas, for 41 years.

 

Alfred was known for his humor, his intellect and his love for his family.  He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease when he was 41 years old.  Al has helped with several studies at University of Kansas working towards a cure.  He was known as Dr. Larson, Dr. Al, Big Al, Al, Dad, Pepa, Pops and Grandpa. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the St. Pius community.   

 

Dr. Larson is  survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dolores “Skelly” Larson; his brother, Larry Larson (Olga Larson), Kewanee, Illinois and  their children:  Kevin Larson, Williamstown, New Jersey, Marirose Larson, Mission, Kansas, Tim Larson, Overland Park, Kansas, Joanne Kendall, Round Rock, Texas, Dan Larson (Cathy Larson), Overland Park, Kansas, Michael Larson (Karen Larson), Shawnee, Kansas, Katie Stuck (John Stuck), Mission, Kansas, Nora Tripp (Mike Tripp), Shawnee, Kansas, and Tracie Mitchell, Lenexa, Kansas.

 

He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Piliponis; brother, Phillip Larson; and sister, Donna Larson.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

All services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church,5500 Woodson Road in Mission.  The visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m., on Friday, December 30, 2011.  Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m.   Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2011.

Rosemary Margaret Prater

December 26, 2011

Rosemary M. Prater, 87, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011.

 

She married Arthur Prater on February 23, 1952. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She unselfishly assisted her husband in his dental practice and raised their son while remaining close to her faith.  A life-long volunteer, Rosemary served and provided to those in need: Wyandotte Pregnancy  Clinic, Villa St. Francis, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and Junior League.  As a member of the Lake Quivira Country Club, she volunteered at many golf tournaments. 

 

A woman ahead of her time, she understood the stock market, and became a savvy investor.  She earned an associate degree from the Johnson County Community College at the age of 62.  She loved oil painting, ball room dancing, jazz, silver smiting, golf, college basketball and traveling.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 4, 2007, two brothers, William (Pat), and Harry (Betty) McDonald, and sister, Mary Emma Loxterman.  Survivors include her son, Dr. Fredric Prater (Karen McDaniel), St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Rita Camp of Hannibal, Missouri; close friend Pauline Jung; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Rosemary will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee where the Rosary will be at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, Dec. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11711 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS 66203; burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

Charles Lloyd Russell, Jr.

Charles Lloyd Russell, Jr., 82, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011, at his home.

 

Charles was born October 22, 1929, in Kansas City, Kansas, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Following his service time, Charles worked at Bendix. He later owned and operated the Sinclair Station at 80th and Metcalf from 1965-71. Charles was a mechanic at several area auto dealerships, retiring in 1997 from Superior Toyota.

 

Charles is survived by his wife, Carrie “Sue” Russell; three sons, Mike (Sharon) Russell, Kansas City, Missouri, Bob Russell, Overland Park, Kansas and John (Melissa) Russell, Cartersville, Georgia; three daughters, Mary (Randy) Meyer, Spring Hill, Kansas, Susan (Brian) James, DeSoto, Kansas and Shelly (David) Hamilton, Kansas City, Missouri; and 43 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

William Warren Gerfen

December 23, 2011

William Warren Gerfen, 94, Shawnee, Kansas, passed Friday, December 23, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Bill was born September 1, 1917,  in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arthur F. and Mildred (Kauffmann) Gerfen. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Medal.  Bill worked with Columbia Steel Tank for 21 years and Farmland Industries for 16 years, retiring in 1976.  He was secretary/ treasurer for the Kansas City Implement, Hardware and Tractor Club and financial secretary for N.A.R.F.E. serving for 15 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 370.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Gerfen and his second wife, Margaret (Huddleston) Gerfen. Survivors include his son, Warren Gerfen and wife, Joanne; daughter Monica Madl and husband Daniel all of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandsons, Craig William (Christi) Gerfen, Shawnee, Kansas and Keith Michael (Ali) Gerfen, Olathe, Kansas; and four great grandchildren, Tristan, Sydney, Makenna and Mason.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee where a Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m..  Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Wesley Eugene Chance, 40, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at his home.

 

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Chance; children, Christopher and Amber Chance; father, Don Chance; mother, Gloria Snowden; sister, Kari Chance; and brothers, Ronnie and Toby Mardis.  We love you and will meet again.

George A. Thompson

George A. Thompson, 93, of Shawnee, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home.  

 

George was born December 14, 1918 to the late Leonard and Beulah Thompson in Polo, Missouri.  He joined the United States Army Air Corps November 6, 1941.  George served as an aircraft mechanic in Northern Africa during World War II.  After returning from the service he married Lloydine Lispi on October 12, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas.  George worked for TWA until his retirement in 1979. 

 

George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lloydine; his sons Gary and Keith Thompson; a sister, Mary Etta Sheely; 3 granddaughters and 12 great grandchildren.

Wilma Bell Boyle

Wilma Bell Boyle, 84, of Mission, Kansas, passed away December 19, 2011.  Wilma was born November 12, 1927, in Pierce City, Missouri, to Edward and Frances (Jacobs) Friday. 

 

Wilma was preceded in death by a grandson Aaron B. Campbell and her friend & companion, Frank Horosko.  She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Boyle and Jennifer Hallman (James); grandson, Anthony (Elizabeth) Hallman; three great-grandchildren, Aidan, Abigail, and Elise Hallman; sister Shirley A. (Bob) Boland;  nephew, Craig Boland; niece Karen Boland and her partner Monica Lewis; and nephew Kevin Boland and his wife Shannon along with their children, Eli and Ian. 

 

Wilma was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.  She will be deeply missed.

Mary Jane Brown Hootz Schneller

Mary Jane Brown Hootz Schneller, 75, Donna, Texas, died Monday, December 19, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas .

 

Mary was born September 14, 1936, to Eugene R. and Cleora Jane (Evans) Brown. She attended Wyandotte High School and graduated in 1954. Currently living in Donna, Texas, and a member of the St. Pius Catholic Church in Weslaco, Texas, Mary was also a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Kansas City, Missouri, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She worked for a number of years at Sprint. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mary square danced with Swinging Squares.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene Jr., Arthur W., Clarence and James Brown; first husband, J.B. Hootz and granddaughter, Barbara Graf.  She is survived by her husband, John J. Schneller; daughters, Lois Hootz and Jo Ann Hootz; step-children, John Schneller, Kathy Baughman and Ann Graf; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64133.  Funeral service will te at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the church.  Burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Shawnee, Kansas.
