Joseph Charles Brennan

Joseph Charles Brennan, 75, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. 

 

Joseph was born July 18, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Joseph C. and Catherine Brennan.  He attended college at Wichita State University, Washburn University and Emporia State University. Joseph was Special Agent in Charge of Assets Protection and Loss Prevention at Burlington Northern Railroad.  He was a past and very active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri, serving as Eucharistic Minister, in the RCIA, Sacristan and in prison ministries in Memphis, Tennessee.

 

Joseph was an avid fisherman and spent many hours fishing with his son, Tim. Joseph and Tim were members of the Renagrade Bass Club and won the Championship Tournament in 1999.

 

He is survived by his wife, Judy Brennan of 53 years; daughter, Tracy (Ray) Campagna, Lenexa, Kansas; son, Tim Brennan and wife, Tracy, Olathe, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Matt and Shannon Campagna and Daniel Brennan.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.   Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at the chapel.  Entombment in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6-8 pm, Monday at the chapel.

Ronald H. Bozarth

October 30, 2011

Ronald H. Bozarth, 62, 0f Olathe, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011.

 

Ron was born in Vineland, New Jersey, and retired as a Major from the U.S. Army.

 

He is survived by his wife, Becky Bozarth, a son, Banning Bozarth, and a sister, Kathleen Earls.

 

Funeral Service

 

Funeral service will be 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial will be 9 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Velma C. Dawson

October 29, 2011

Velma C. Dawson, 83, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at her home in Merriam, Kansas, after a long battle with cancer.  

 

Velma was born September 14, 1928, to Joseph and Anna Rahija in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas.   A graduate of Wyandotte High School, class of 1946, she married Alva R. “Chick” Dawson on May 20, 1947.  Velma retired from Southwestern Bell in 1983 to be a full-time grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework, was an avid puzzle-solver and played Bingo as “therapy”.

 

Al and Velma enjoyed traveling to Yellowstone National Park every autumn to fish and spend time with friends. Mrs. Dawson was also a lover of the arts, frequenting the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and many local theater productions. Velma was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild in January to Ross and Liz and the marriage of her granddaughter, Erin, to Tim Ryan of Osterville, Massachusetts in April. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

 

Velma is survived by her daughter, Teri Waters, Merriam, Kansas; granddaughters, Sara Goodman, Merriam, Kansas and Erin Waters, Union, Kentucky; grandsons and their spouses, Ross Waters and Liz, Overland Park, Kansas and Kyle Waters and Lea Ann, Merriam, Kansas; and her brother and his spouse, Joseph Rahija and Dolores, Kansas, City, Kansas.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00  p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the chapel, followed by burial next to her husband at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas.

Olivia P. Numrich

October 29, 2011

Olivia P. Numrich, 96 of Mission, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Manor Care of Overland Park.    

 

Olivia was born August 3, 1915, to the late Anthony and Christina Spielman in Seneca, Kansas.  She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Providence Nursing College in 1937 and went on to practice as a Registered Nurse in surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital and Baptist Memorial for over 25 years, taking time off to stay home and raise her two sons, Bill and Bob. Olivia was a Charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the ABWA. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1976 after 34 years of marriage. 

 

Olivia is survived by her two sons, Bill Numrich and Bob Numrich and wife Martha; sister, Luella Hinton; grandson Brian Numrich and wife Jamie; granddaughter, Julie Murray and husband Dan; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 

Visitation and Services

 

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas .  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m.; burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

LeRoy M. Waldrop

October 29, 2011

LeRoy M. Waldrop, 86, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away October 29, 2011.  LeRoy was born October 20, 1925, in Shawnee, Kansas, to Norman F and Ella (Dyster) Waldrop. 

 

He is survived by his wife Norma L. Waldrop; daughters Barbara Johnson, Debby Swank and Becky Taylor; sons Randy Mead and Chad Waldrop; grandchildren, Josh Swank, Bryant Swank, Dillon Taylor, Marcus Waldrop, Alex Reandon, and Gabrial Castro; and sister Velma Frye and her husband Tom. 

 

LeRoy’s memory will live on through his loving family.

Dorothy Margret Stanton

October 29, 2011

Dorothy Margret Stanton, 93, of Overland Park, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Trinity Nursing and Rehab in Merriam. 

 

Dorothy was born August 1, 1918, to the late Lucian and Nellie Killion in Sweet Springs, Missouri.  She graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri, in 1934.   On September 20, 1941, Dorothy married John T. Stanton, Sr. while he was home on leave.  He preceded her in death after 43 years of marriage in December of 1984. 

 

Dorothy is survived by her son John T. Stanton, Jr. and his wife Rosemary; a daughter Terri Loeffler and her husband Arthur; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 

 

Visitation and Services

 

A visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m., . Wednesday, November 2, 2011,  at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee followed by a Celebration of Dorothy’s Life at 11:00 a.m.

Frances McNair Rolston

October 28, 2011

Frances McNair Rolston, 96, of Mission, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 28, 2011.  Fran was born August 3, 1915, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After residing in Cincinnati, California, and Hawaii, she moved to the Kansas City area in 1955. 

 

Fran was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 40 years.  She had been employed by the Trust Department of the First National Bank of Kansas City, Missouri, for 27 years.  After retirement, Fran volunteered for 20 years, serving 14,000 hours, at Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.  

 

Frances was preceded in death by sister Virginia Gerold, and brothers, Joseph W. McNair and Robert E. McNair, all of Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

Fran is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Maurer of Kearney, Missouri, ten grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

 

 

Visitation and Services

 

Visitation will be from 9:00-9:45 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2011, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas 66202, where Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m.    Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum, Lenexa, Kansas.

John Hattaway

October 28, 2011

John Hattaway, 80, DeSoto, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011, at his home in DeSoto.

 

John served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He obtained his BS in Business from the University of Kansas, and was employed by the Black and Veatch Company, where he retired after 38 years of service. During his employment, John spent 12 years working in Egypt. 

 

John was preceded in death by his sister Hazel Maxine, and brother Cleland. Survivors include his two sons,  Brian, Lenexa, Kansas and Brett, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; four grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren, Lindsey and Allegra.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. ,Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee

Beverly A. Harris

Beverly A. Harris, 80, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away October 25, 2011.  Beverly was born April 7, 1931, in Atlantic, Iowa. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Kevin Harris, and a sister Mary Jane Hunley.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jessie R. Harris; seven children, 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.  She is also survived by her brother B.J. Brown.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m.,  Saturday, October 29, 2011, also at the chapel with burial following in Monticello Union Cemetery.
