A Guiding Light, Mentor, Friend, Husband, Father, Grandfather. Robert Gordon Murray was born July 20, 1925, in Polo, Missouri. He was one of eight children of John & Frances Murray.  He left for Heaven on July 1, 2011, from complications of Dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Bob was raised in Braymer, Missouri, and attended Braymer High School. Following high school graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country honorably during World War II. After his military service, Bob attended and graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College. On December 1, 1951, he married Edith M. Murray in San Francisco, California. They returned to the Kansas City area in the early 1950s where their children, Rick and Cheryl, were born.

Bob was transferred in a job promotion to Springfield, Missouri, in early 1960 where the family spent the better part of 10 wonderful years. Bob was active in his church, Westminster Presbyterian, served as Boy Scout Leader of Troop 16 and stayed active in raising his family with Edith. A job-related transfer brought Bob back to the Kansas City area in December 1969 where the family resided in Shawnee, Kansas. On October 1, 1977, Bob founded Murray Industrial Food Sales, Inc., with Edith as Office Manager. Bob’s son, Rick, joined the business in June 1978 and continues to run the business today. Rick offers heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity of not only a career but to have had the chance to work side by side with both Bob and Edith.

Bob has been a member of Community Covenant Church in Lenexa since 1980 and has served in various ministry positions. He loved golf and for many years was a member of the Tomahawk Seniors Golf League.

Bob is survived by his wife Edith of Lenexa; daughter Cheryl Murray of Prairie Village; son Rick, daughter in-law Cheryl; and granddaughter Cara of Lenexa. Cara always held a special place in Bob’s heart.

Bob always put family first and wanted the best for them and his many friends. He was always ready to help and his kindness plus friendly personality were always apparent to those he came in contact with.
