Constance Ruth Johnson Meiggs, 97, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Villa St. Joseph, Overland Park, Kansas.
Connie was born January 23, 1914, in Brooklyn, New York. She was a 1932 graduate of Topeka High School and earn her BA at the University of Kansas.
Connie was preceded in death by her first husband, Bert Johnson and second husband, Keith Meiggs. Survivors include her daughter, Roberta L. Garrison and husband, Mike, Leawood, Kansas; two grandchildren, Steven Garrison and wife, Kristen, Wichita Falls, Texas and Suzanne Garrison, Pennsauken, New Jersey; and three great grandchildren, Isabelle, Julia and Preston.

Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 31 at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas.

Julie V. Manker, 83, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
Julie Vera was born April 1, 1928, in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, to Truman and Mary Ann “Mamie” Lowther. She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Manker in 1975. She is survived by her two daughters, Marta Johnson and husband, Chip and Gina Middleton and husband, John all of Shawnee, Kansas; five grandchildren, Tessa Johnson, Tyler (Dionisia) Johnson, Maurena (Jordan) Edemann, Marlena Middleton and Trace Middleton; and one great grandson, Malcolm Johnson.

Marie Theresa Watts, 91, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Overland Park Nursing and Rehab, Overland Park, Kansas.
Marie was born March 2, 1920, in Wyandotte County, Kansas, to Joseph L. and Marie E. Fastner. In 1943, Marie married Charles A. Watts in Oakdale, Louisiana.
She took great joy in volunteering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and enjoyed playing cards with her Keenager group. Marie’s constant companions were her dogs.

Gerald D. Humble

Gerald D. Humble, 83, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away May 18, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Gerald was born September 11, 1927, in Washington, Iowa. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Army. After his service in the army he came to Kansas City to attend Rockhurst College. Gerald married Margaret E. Becker on January 19, 1952. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 56 yrs and was active in numerous ministries and activities. He was a superintendent with the Holland Construction Company, retiring in 2002 after 50 years.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Grant M. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Humble, brother John G. Humble, and granddaughter Erica Humble. Gerald was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Renee Humble RSM; loving wife Margaret E. Humble; children, Chris Humble of Gardner, Kansas, Mark and Rhonda Humble of Gardner, Kansas, Renee Humble of Mission, Kansas, Grant and Lisa Humble of Kansas City, Kansas, Matthew Humble of Kansas City, Kansas, Paul and Brenda Humble of Altoona, Iowa, and John and Kathryn Humble of Beatrice, Nebraska; grandchildren, Michelle, Kevin, Chad, Brandon, Laura, Genna, Dale, Malarie, Jerad, and Linda; and great-grandchildren, Levi, Oliva, and Kyria.

Rhua “Mickey” Dietz Settle, 86, Kansas City, Missouri, died at home May 18, 2011.
Born January 16, 1925, she was an artist, writer and longtime volunteer. She volunteered at Hospice Care of Mid-America for 17 years; was a Great Books leader and GED instructor; and visited the sick at Menorah Medical Center and Truman Medical Center for more than 30 years. She was a devoted parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and volunteer for 40 years at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. If you recognize her picture, you may be one of the many strangers she quietly touched.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert Gayle Settle; and daughters Tama Lou Settle and Mary Gayle Settle.
She is survived by her children: Anne Harvey (Jim), Lenexa, Kansas, Joe Settle (Mary) Belton Texas, Brian Settle, Fairway, Kansas; her grandchildren: David Settle (Sonja), Raima Bowcaster (Shaun), Joy Hutcherson-Wong (Gordon) , Ruth Seba (Eric), Matthew Settle, Kelli Settle, Rebecca Harvey, Jasmine Settle, Lily Settle; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Genevieve was born February 13, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Frank L. and Mary (Loeffler) Guenther. She is preceded in death by daughter, Dianne Demetrulias and sisters, Katherine Roper and Elizabeth Volmert. Survivors include her four daughters, Janice Hirstein, Shawnee, Kansas, Linda Anderson, Vienna West Virginia, Susan Preuss, Fairview Heights, Illinois and Michelle Schmidt, Dupo, Illinois; son, Richard Robinson, Swansea, Illinois; sister, Lucille Pringle, Hot Springs, Arkansas; four brothers, Charles Guenther, Vincent Guenther, Frank Guenther all of the St. Louis, Missouri area and Anthony Guenther, Georgia; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Paul T. (Jerry) Wilson, Jr., of Shawnee, Kansas, age 80, passed away May 16, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Julie.
Jerry was born March 25, 1931, in Somerville, Massachusetts. He was the son of Viola and Paul T. Wilson Sr. He was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, as an only child. Jerry graduated high school at Boston Latin as class president and then graduated from Brown University. Jerry served in the Air Force where he met his wife Julie and it was love at first sight. Jerry was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make just about anyone laugh. He absolutely loved telling stories of his life. Jerry was very passionate about his family and attended almost every sporting event possible. He enjoyed spending spare time gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his 6 children, Dee O’Brien (Jack), Paula Murray (John), Scott (Pam), Tim (Winnie), Jenny VanLerberg (Steve), Jeremy (Michelle); 7 grandchildren Travis, Jesse, Jason, Jake, Alex, Sarah, and Jack as well as their spouses; and 3 great grandchildren.

Mary Agnes Ritter (Plumberg-Corben) Siraguso, 93, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away, Monday, May 16, 2011.
Mary Agnes was born November 22, 1917, to Daniel Ritter and Agnes McNamara-Ritter. She attended Holy Name Catholic Grade School and Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She married Bernard Plumberg in 1936 and they had 5 children, Dolores Plumberg-Goode, Joe Plumberg, Patricia Plumberg-Loercher, Mike Plumberg and Nancy Plumberg Watkins.
Mary Agnes worked for several local Kansas City businesses before retiring at age 65. After retiring, she traveled the world and volunteered her time as driver for anyone needing a ride to attend appointments, pick up groceries or wherever they needed her to take them. In recognition of her tireless volunteer efforts in Shawnee, she was named volunteer of the year. She also enjoyed making baby blankets for each new grand baby.
Mary Agnes could always be found enjoying holidays, birthdays and numerous other special occasions with her family (21 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren).

Eugene H. Denton

Eugene H. Denton, 77, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, after a brief battle with leukemia.
Gene was born on November 13, 1933, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Albert and Bertha Denton. He was County Administrator in Johnson County, Kansas, from 1985-1998, and previously served as the City Manager of Wichita, Kansas, for nine years, and as Assistant City Manager in both Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Cologne in Germany, a Life Member of the International City/County Management Association, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He proudly served in the United States Army as an Artillery Officer in Korea.
Gene never knew a stranger and was well regarded in his profession with numerous awards and distinctions. He was devoted to his church and the Johnson County Rotary Club, and he volunteered with several charities and organizations.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (“Papaw”). He will be dearly missed by his wife of 48 years, Eskridge “Gigi” Denton; their children Regena and Jon McFarland, Walter and Kathy Denton; and their grandchildren Anna McFarland, Craig McFarland, Ally Denton, and Jenna Denton. He is also survived by three sisters, Norma Brooner, Marjorie Ruoff, Grace McVicker, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marion Rozelle Darrah Ray Ashlock, 87, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Marion was born July 6, 1923, in Lafayette County, Missouri to Elton Edgar Darrah and Violet Hester Tankersley.
She was a member of the Shawnee Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shawnee, Kansas, American Legion Post #327. As a child she and her siblings used to sing and dance for the old confederate veterans. At Greenwood Terrace Senior community, where she lived, she entertained other residents by playing the piano.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Leo Clayton Ray, Sr,; her son, Leo Clayton Ray, Jr.; 2 brothers, Robert Darrah and Nathanial Sutton Darrah; and 1 sister, Dorcas Lee Hinrick. She is survived by her husband, Harold Keith Ashlock; two sons, Larry Clayton Ray (Alison) and James Dennis Ray (Ann); three stepsons, Gerald Steven Ashlock (Cheryl), Ronald Eugene Ashlock (Terri), and Greg Allen Ashlock; one stepdaughter, Karen Sue Ashlock Buckle; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Elton Edgar Darrah, Jr.; and one sister, Virginia Dee Rooney.
