Nick Del Percio
April 11, 2011
Nick Del Percio departed this life on April 11, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Angelo Del Percio of Volturara Arpina, Italy; his beloved mother, Josephine (Marra); brothers Bill and Mike; and many of his lifelong friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Margaret Lucille (Connor); brothers, Vincent and Victor; sister, Filomena Trzok; children, Michael Del Percio, Kathleen Cansler, Richard Del Percio, and Donna Lewallen; and 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and 18 nieces and nephews.
A lifelong Catholic and Kansas City, Kansas, resident, Nick grew up on Strawberry Hill as a member of St. Mary’s Parish and was a graduate of Bishop Ward High School, class of 1937. Nick excelled in athletics, with his favorite sports being baseball, basketball, and boxing.
Nick began a 30-year career at Chrysler Corporation in 1945. In 1954, he moved from Strawberry Hill to western Wyandotte County where he became a member of Christ the King Parish. Nick retired in 1975 as a member of the management staff at Chrysler Corporation’s plant in Fairfax, Kansas.
After retiring, Nick spent much of his time golfing and traveling with his wife Lucille. Nick and Lucille’s favorite travel destinations were Estes Park, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada, and San Francisco, California. While traveling, Nick did extensive hiking and climbing. His favorite hikes and climbs included Long’s Peak in the Rocky Mountains, The Grand Canyon, and the Mojave Desert/Death Valley areas. Nick now goes to join his parents, other family members and friends. He takes with him the love, respect and admiration of those he leaves behind.
Nick asked us to convey his thanks and love to all of many family members and friends for their years of love and friendship. The family would like to thank Providence Place and Catholic Community Hospice of Northeast Kansas for the care given to Nick. Thanks also to Amos Family Funeral Home and Catholic Cemeteries.
Visitation and Funeral Service
Respecting one of Nick’s last requests, all services will be for family only. The visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2011, followed by a Catholic Prayer Service at 1:00 p.m., all at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
Larry W. Smith

Larry W. Smith, 65 of Westwood, Kansas, passed away, Monday, April 11, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Larry was born in Mitchell, Arkansas, to Otho and Ada Mae Blair Smith. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1957. He was a carpenter and member of Local 61 of the Carpenter’s Union. Larry was a talented musician and played the bass guitar for many local bands and gospel groups. He loved muscle cars and drag racing. He particularly loved Corvettes.
Larry is survived by a son, Kenny J. Smith and his wife, Denise, of Windsor, Missouri; two brothers, Carroll Smith and his wife, LaRue, and Ronnie Smith and his wife Pam, all of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister, Patricia Stuart and her husband, Darren, of Shawnee, Kansas; and six grandchildren, Hannah, Ashleigh, Patrick, Keaton, Drake, and Laura.

Carolyn L. Fries, 80, Mission, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, Kansas.
Carolyn was born December 29, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John H. and Eula H. (Wilson) Fling. After 27 years of service, Carolyn retired from General Casualty Co. in 1994.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jack W. Fries; two daughters, Ginny (Charles) Lyon and Amy (Kevin) Lutz all of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Lawrence (Linda) Fries, Louisburg, Kansas; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Avenue, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.

Doris Colombe Zirfas

Doris Colombe Zirfas, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, at her home.
She was born August 13, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph M. and Marie (Weis) Cihlar. She was united in marriage to Eugene Colombe until his death in 1980. She remarried to Lawrence Zirfas who passed away in 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Betty Shaw, and a brother Raymond Cihlar. She is survived by her four children from her first marriage; John, Greg, and Brian Colombe and Carol Krause. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Janice Minor, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Sally K. Cleeton, 47, of Paola, passed away April 6, 2011, from pneumonia at Miami County Medical Center.
Sally was born October 13, 1963, to the late Artie and Irene Cleeton in Kansas City, Kansas. Sally was a resident at Lakemary Center for over 15 years. She loved traveling and other activities with her Lakemary family. Sally also had a special love of animals.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Pat and Jim. Sally is survived by her sisters, Mikey, Carol, Shannon and families, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lakemary Center, 100 Lakemary Drive; Paola, Kansas 66071.
Memorial Service
Memorial service will be held at Lakemary Center in Paola at a later date. Private graveside services will be at Memorial Lawn in Emporia, Kansas.

Mary Catherine Flynn, entered new life on April 5, 2011, at Kansas City Hospice House.
Mary retired at age 80 after having held positions in journalism for 60 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Flynn; an infant sister; sister Ann Warren and husband Woodrow; brothers Paul Flynn and Joseph N. Flynn; sister-in-law Barbara Wirth Flynn; and sister-in-law Emma Vogrin Flynn.
Survivors include Mary’s brother, Tom Flynn; sister-in-law Elizabeth Grisnik Flynn; niece Kathleen Samalon and Bill Samalon; nephew Joseph M. Flynn and wife, Suz-Anne; great-nieces Kristine Wadley and daughter Grace and son Joseph Michael; Kourtney Honan and husband Rick and their daughter Suzanne and son Gavin; Keri Evans and husband Doug and their sons Cole, Wyatt and Owen and daughter Lydia; and a host of also treasured other relatives and friends.

Terry E. Gruenewald

Terry Edward Gruenewald, 64, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Olathe Medical Center.
Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, the first son of Edward James and Elizabeth Mary (Specker) Gruenewald. Terry proudly served in the Marine Corps Reserve (1966-1972). Terry was a talented entrepreneur, mentor, and loving family man who took a genuine interest in everyone around him. He was an engaging person who made people feel comfortable and relaxed. Terry will be remembered for his sound advice, good and warm nature, and the wonderful, spiritual life he shared with all those who were priviledged to know him. Our loss is Heaven’s gain as Terry will be truly missed.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan of the home; his children, Terry II (Victoria), Susie (Jon) Pennington, Katie (Kevin) Ott, and Matthew (Mary Beth) Gruenewald; and his grandchildren Jason, Tamara, Thomas, Zachary, Amanda, Melissa Gruenewald; Annika, Ryan Pennington; Michael, Felix Ott. He is also survived by his mother, Bette Gruenewald; his siblings, David, Linda (Evers), Steven, Danny, Jimmy, and Nancy (Dark); and his aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his baby brother Jeffrey (1961) and his father Edward Gruenewald (1977).

Charles W. Schleicher

Charles W. Schleicher, 82, of Neosho, Missouri, formerly of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Monday, April 4, 2011, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Schleicher was born December 22, 1928, to William H. and Margaret E. Nunnink Schleicher. He was a graduate of Lillis High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He was an Army veteran. He worked as a carpenter in the Shawnee Mission area before his retirement. He moved to Neosho, Missouri in 2001. He was an active member of Project Linus and made a number of blankets and quilts for children in need.
He is survived by his wife, Caroljean Schleicher, of the home. His first wife, Connie Schleicher, of Shawnee, Kansas; three children, Charles and Paula Schleicher, of Lenexa, Kansas, Jill and Steve Haesemeyer, of Merriam, Kansas and Joy and Dirk Haegert, of Emporia, Kansas; five grandchildren, David and Eric Schleicher, Janna and Jason Haegert and Christopher Haesemeyer; two great grandchildren, Ethan and Grace Schleicher; four step-children, Robert and Deborah Lindley, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Valerie and Mike Rhoads, of Cummings, Georgia, Janet and JR Penn, of Neosho, Missouri and Vivian and Mark Douglas, of Neosho, Missouri; nine step-grandchildren, Melissa and Chris Lindley, Holly and Dylan Rhoads, Kyle and Ashley Penn and Caleb, Alyceson and Nate Douglas and six step-great grandchildren, Mike Rhoads, Brady Waltzer, Callie Castleberry, David and Emily Rhoads, and Emmaline Douglas; two brothers, Harold Schleicher, of Kansas City, Missouri and William Schleicher, of Westwood, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a son, David Schleicher and a brother, Richard Schleicher.
