Ruth Ann Guise
Ruth Ann Guise, 57, of Shawnee, died peacefully on Wednesday March 16, 2011.
Ruth was born on October 23, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, daughter of Edwin and Ruth Bleam of Leavenworth Kansas. Ruth excelled in 4-H and crafts during her formative years, and then developed skills in hunting and fishing. She graduated from Basehor High School. After a 20 year career in nursing, ranging from the delivery ward to trauma care to heart surgery, she met her devoted and loving husband Timothy Guise. Health problems derailed further progress in nursing and she tried her hand in growing flowers which she loved, making jams and pies at which she excelled, and dealing in antiques in which she had a keen eye.
She is survived and will be sorely missed by her husband Tim; her son David Russell Martin who she loved dearly; her parents Ed and Ruth Bleam; and siblings Kenneth Bleam (Cheryl), Howard Bleam (Connie) and Carolyn Hollingshead (Keith) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
We will forever remember her indomitable spirit and strength in the face of so much adversity throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64105 or online at www.cancer.org
Visitation and Funeral Service
We will celebrate her life with a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at the chapel. Interment will follow at Hubbell Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie, Kansas, where she will join her much loved grandparents.

Aunt Ruth,
Words can never describe how much I miss you. You were more than just an aunt to me, you were a second mother and a best friend. Thank you for the countless memories that I will cherish forever and all that you had done for me and Zach. I know that you are in heaven with the Lord now and it seems silly for me to write this but, for some reason it just makes me feel better. Till we meet again, we love you and will think of you often!
Tim & David,
You both were the world to her. Thanks for taking such good care of her over the years, I know that she truly appreciated it. Know that I’ll always be there if you need anything at all, I’m only a phone call away.
Dear Tim and Family,
It was with a great sense of loss when we heard of Ruth’s passing. We wanted to let you know that you have our greatest sympathy, and our hearts are truly saddened. Although it has been awhile since we have been together; we remember that Ruth was more than just a wonderful person; she was always so kind and considerate to us that we always welcomed seeing her at every opportunity. May God give you strength. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you. With our deepest sympathy, Kelly and Victoria Dillon.
Thinking of you at this time, sharing in your sorrow.

I am so sorry to hear of Ruth Ann’s passing. I graduated in the class of 1971 from BLHS. We did not keep in touch after graduating but I met her once again at Providence when my son had minor surgery 26 years ago. She was the attending nurse and we had a nice visit. She shared her home for our 10-year reunion picnic and was very generous. At our 25th reunion I learned she was a cancer survival and was no longer in nursing due to other health issues. I met Tim and the two of them seemed very much in love. At the time, Ruth Ann was very proud of her rose garden and I was inspired by her success in growing several varieties. We are now graduated 40 years and I was hoping to meet up with her again to learn more about her life and family. I’m so sorry that we will not see her again. I pray for God’s comfort for Tim, David, and all of her family, May God bless you all.
Dear Tim,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Ruth will be sorely missed. She was a courageous and caring lady – very special in so many ways. God bless you.

Have been thinking of you today and wondering how everything went. I know you must be feeling a tremendous loss right now but hopefully in the weeks to come you can be comforted in the sure knowledge that she is in peace, but still with you in your heart. Much love from your cousin in Cornwall. x
Tim, We were saddened to hear about the loss of your wife, Ruth. Our prayers are for your family during this grevious occasion. May the good Load bless your wifes soul with his eternal grace and grant you the courage and wisdom to accept His will. God Bless.
I am feeling a loss that I never did get to know my cousin Ruth Ann as an adult but will always cherish the memories we shared together as teenagers before life’s path took us on two separate journeys. May it bring you peace and comfort to know that at this time of sorrow , God is there with you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
May God Be with you always,

My sympathies on your loss. I was very active in Women’s Aglow years ago and a friend of Ruth’s mother but have been gone from Kansas many years. I would love to hear back from her if she is able. I pray the Lord will comfort all of you at this time.
