George Harvey Nolte

George Harvey Nolte, 95, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011. 

 

Harvey was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and received the Bronze Star. Harvey retired from US Customs Service in 1977. He was a longtime member of the Overland Park Civic Band, the Shawnee Civic Band, other area bands and led the Johnson County Jazz Band for five years.

 

Harvey is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Kathryn (Melia) Nolte; five children, George, Thomas (Cheryl), Steve (Jill), Joyce (Cedric) Cheng and  Teresa (Steve) Marsden; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a rosary recitation will be at 5:00 pm.

Donald R. White

February 18, 2011

Donald R. White, 76, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at his home.   

 

Don was born March 13, 1934, to the late Dee and Lorene White in Arkansas City, Kansas.  Don joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War on the USS Valley Forge and USS Point Cruz.  After being honorably discharged, Don attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a Master’s Degree. 

 

Don worked for the Ford Motor Company as an Engineer and Service Instructor for 28 years before retiring in April of 1989.  He was an avid Ford car enthusiast and loved taking fishing trips to Minnesota with his wife and friends. 

 

Don is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janeen; three step sons, Kim, Kevin and Stacey Bauer; two daughters, Donna Olmstead and Susan Higganbotham; a brother William White, a sister Jo Ann Reasor; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sunflower Healthcare, 7398 W. 162nd Terrace, Stilwell, Kansas 66085 or Abdallah Shrine, 5300 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66202. 

 

Visitation and Services

 

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery with military honors. 

Connie J. Cortright

February 18, 2011

Connie Jean Cortright, 50, of Olathe passed away Friday, February 18, 2011.  Connie was born August 4, 1960 in Kansas City, Kansas.  She graduated from Braymer High School in 1978.  After High School she attended Missouri Western and received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, in 1998 she received her MBA from Baker University. 

 

Connie was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where she was active as Extraordinary Minister as well serving as a Church Sacristan, Chairman of the Stewardship Committee, and assisted with the RCIA program.  She loved making jewelry with beads and was learning how to make silver jewelry from her father.

 

Connie enjoyed being active in her church and spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughter Grace and was looking forward to the arrival of her granddaughter Morgan in June. 

 

Connie is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Tom;  a son Joseph Jeffers and wife Meaghan and granddaughter Grace; her father Edward Wilds, Sr.; mother, Margaret Wilds; brother, Edward Wilds, Jr.; a sister Teresa Weddle; her twin brother Craig Wilds; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul’s Parish Relocation Fund, 900 S. Honeysuckle, Olathe, Kansas 66061. 

 

Vistation and Services

 

A rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Olathe, visitation will follow from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Church, with burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. 

A. E. Gene Wright

February 17, 2011

Albert E. “Gene” Wright, 82, of Shawnee passed away Thursday February 17, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  

 

Gene was born May 10, 1928, to the late Albert and Ida Wright in Mound City, Kansas, and  spent his childhood in New Lancaster,  Kansas.

 

Gene entered the Navy on January 28, 1946, at the age of 17, where he served as a Gunner’s Mate in the Pacific on three battleships, the USS Topeka, USS New Jersey and the USS Bremerton.  After his service in the Navy, Gene married Patricia Ann Tucker on April 1, 1948.  They were married for 63 years. 

 

Gene worked as a plumber for Ellis Witter Plumbing in Overland Park for over 40 years.  After he retired he served as a crossing guard for the Merriam police department for 15 years.  Gene finally retired in 2006. 

 

Gene was a family man and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.  He served as a Scout Leader for Troop #185 with all three of his sons.    Gene is a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church as well as Lake Paradise Camping Club. 

 

Gene is survived by his loving wife Patricia, his four children: Ron and wife Donna Kay Wright, Terry and wife Susan Wright, Bonnie Haley and Rick Wright; five grandchildren: Julie and husband Keaton McRay,  Jennifer and husband Justin Turner, Mindy and husband Jacob Bell, Valerie and husband Tim Wichmann and Terry Wright, Jr. and wife Stephanie.  Thirteen great grandchildren also survive him.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.  Burial with full military honors will be at Rockville Cemetery in Drexel, Missouri.

David Michael Brothers

February 16, 2011

David Michael Brothers, 22, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

 

He attended St. Regis Catholic School in Kansas City, Missouri, and Blue Springs Missouri Middle School, and happily graduated from Mill Valley High School, Shawnee, Kansas in 2007.

 

He became a member of the Pipefitters Local Union 533.  David enjoyed working in the trade.  He had the ability to talk with anyone, and was always enthusiastic about a new challenge. One of his great pleasures was daily playing with his Labrador, Doggie.

 

He is survived by his mother Teresa Balderrama, father Thomas Brothers, and Trina Schulz; brothers and sisters Daniel, Anthony, Ana, Vincent, Louise and Erich, along with maternal grandparents Richard Konon, Joanne Chrastil; great-grandmother Stella Konon, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, many devoted friends, and fellow Pipefitters. We will always love and think of you.

 

David will always be loved and missed by many family and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City or charity of choice.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m., at the chapel.

Minnie O. Boyd

Minnie O. Boyd, 91, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away February 15, 2011. 

 

Minnie was born November 6, 1919, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ollie George and Minnie Lee Allen.  Minnie attended NE Junior High in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Sumner High School.  She  also received a certification in Cosmetology.

 

Minnie accepted Christ at an early age and was last a member of Second Metropolitan Baptist Church in Argentine, Kansas, where she attended regularly until her health didn’t allow.  Minnie worked for many years at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, she was involved in the South Park PTA, she supported all Hocker Grove and Shawnee Mission North school functions. 

 

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell Fowler, Sr. and her second husband Sherman Boyd; a brother Steven J. Allen, a sister Juanita Riggins and a great-granddaughter Taylor Marks.  She is survived by sons Mitchell Fowler, Jr. (Georlene) and Gerald Fowler (Dee), Jeffrey Jones, and daughters Delores Parker (Fred), and Linda Marks (Richard); 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother Buford J. Allen and many nieces and nephews. 

 

The family wishes to thank Southview Adult Day Care, Sharon Lane Nursing Facility and Assisted Home Services for their loving care.

James Irwin Neal

James Irwin Neal, 76, Olathe, Kansas, passed away February 5, 2011.  Jim was born May 5, 1934 to William Bryan Neal and Myrtle Hegenderfer Neal in Severance, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and William B Neal, brothers Harold, Wayne and William, and sister Helen Grosfield. Survivors include George Neal, Aledo, Texas, Warren Neal, Kansas City, Missouri. Willis Neal, Castle Rock, Colorado, Doris White, Spring Hill, Kansas, and Frances Muller, Cleveland, Missouri, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 12 Noon, Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Severance, Kansas.

Robert Ferluga

Robert Lee Ferluga, 74, Edwardsville, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.

 

Robert was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Benjamin and Gladys Ferluga. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eugene Ferluga. Robert was the “Brass King”  in Shawnee, Kansas, for many years. He earned in BA degree in government and worked many years in urban renewal in many cities.

Woodrow “Jack” Boyd

February 13, 2011

 Woodrow (Jack) Boyd, 75, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011, at home.

 

Jack was employed with the Shawnee Mission School District for 34 years where he served as coordinator of operations and maintenance.  He enjoyed being outside in his garden, traveling, and being around his family and friends.

 

Jack was born August 2, 1935, he is survived by his wife Nancy of 55 years of marriage; one son Jeff Boyd and his wife Tammy; daughters, Debra Conroy and her husband Mike, and Pamela Benton and her husband Steve.  He is the proud grandfather of many grand kids and great grand kids.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday February 16, 2011, at the chapel.

James C. Verstraete, Sr.

James C. Verstraete, Sr., 69, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at the Overland Park Regional Medican Center, Overland Park, Kansas. 

 

James was born March 16, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Julius and Louise (Van De Berghe) Verstraete and was a lifelong resident of Lenexa, Kansas. On August 6, 1960, Jim married his sweetheart, Jonnie Peachey in Mission, Kansas. He worked on the family farm and later for the Gas Service Company for 37 years as a Service Technician. Jim was a member of the Lenexa Lions Club.  His joys in life were spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent at sporting events and fishing. Jim also had many good friends who he enjoyed spending time with.

 

Jim was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler James Preston Verstraete, mother and father, siblings and their spouses, Mary Louise and Rufus Beam, Charles and Nadine Verstraete and Sylvia Margaret and Willie Lichtenauer. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jonnie Verstraete; children, Velita (Steve) Smith, Anita (Bob) Mathis, Jim (Angi) Verstraete and Jeannie (Roger Overcast) Verstraete; grandchildren, Erin Smith, Bobby Mathis (Samantha), Shawn Smith, Katie Mathis, Kyle Verstraete, Zachary Verstraete, Eric Mathis, Ryan Verstraete; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Verstraete , Julius “Tutor” (Lorene) Verstraete and Clarance “Clem” (Sue) Verstraete; mother and father-in-law, Cecil and Marvin McConnell; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
