Sheila E. Lucas of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away February 28, 2011, after a brief illness.
She is survived by her son Kurt (his wife Teri); daughters, Kimberly Maher (her husband, Kevin), Kathleen Flack (her husband, Paul), Korinne Harriman (her husband, Dan); 15 grandchildren, Kyle (his wife Michelle), Kevin (his wife, Julie), Kortney, Katelynne, Kelci, Kasondra, Jacob, Zachary, Ryan, Benjamin, Sarah, Thomas, Hope, Lucas, Seth and; one great-grandson, Jordan; brother Bernard (his wife, Helen); and sisters Sharon Owen and Rosemary Rundle. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents and six siblings.

A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee. Graveside services will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas, on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 1 p.m.
Geraldine “Jerry” Maude Ayers

Geraldine “Jerry” Maude Ayers, 83, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Lenexa, Kansas.
Jerry was born May 12, 1927, in Redfield, Kansas to William and Carolyn (Turner) Bilyew. On July 2, 1949, Jerry married Maurice F. Ayers, Jr., in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church. Jerry had been an active volunteer for the Republican Party while living in Wichita, Kansas. She was a saleswoman for Avon for many years.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice on March 21, 1997; two sisters, Wilma Warren and Ernestine Basel; brother, William Charles Bilyew; and her parents. Survivors include her son, Maurice “Trey” F. Ayers, III and wife, Denise, Overland Park, KS; daughter, Emma Bennett and husband, Jim, Tonganoxie, Kansas; sisters, Louise Young, Overland Park, Kansas and Wanda McKinnis, Warrensburg, Missouri; brother, Charles “Bill” Bilyew, Overland Park, Kansas; four grandchildren, Sarah Schleuger, Mathew Overbaugh, Kathleen Ayers and Brian Ayers; and one great grandson, Brody Schleuger.

Mary L. Bartkoski, 84, Overland Park, died February 26, 2011.
She was born December 25, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended St. Benedict’s School and Church and Ward High School. She worked at Southwestern Bell and Riley’s Jewelry. She began singing as a child and was a member of many choirs. She was a cantor at Queen of the Holy Rosary for 35 years and was the church’s first woman cantor. She was a member of the church’s social club and school board.
She belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She loved dancing and travel. With Christmas as her birthday and Mary as her name, she felt a strong bond with Saint Mary and prayed the rosary daily most of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret McMahon; sisters Peggy Pinkelmann and Evelyn Kearney, and brother, William McMahon. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Bartkoski; sons Tom W. Bartkoski and his wife, Jadine, and David Bartkoski and his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Sharon Nicely and her husband, Christopher; grandchildren Joseph, Kathleen and John Nicely, Shannon Bartkoski and Dustin Kerby.

Frank Verdict, Jr. 70, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away February 25, 2011.
Frank was born June 20, 1940, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, to Frank and Beulah Verdict. Frank retired from General Motors after 30+ years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Verdict, two brothers, and one sister. Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise; sons Tony Verdict (Wendy) and Jay Verdict (Brooke); daughter-in-law Annita Verdict; sisters Irene Gill, and Fran Henry; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011, also at the funeral home.

Paul J. Schubert, Sr., Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011.
Paul was born May 11, 1923, in Henley, Missouri. He married the “pretty girl in the pink dress,” Ellen Robinett, on September 5, 1942, and she survives him of the home. Paul was a hard-working family man. At age 11, he held his first grocery store job, and he worked as a meat-cutter for many years in the Kansas City area. A Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific during World War II.
He is survived by his wife and six children: Paul (Molly), Bob (Denise), Steve, Carolyn (Steve) Frisbie, Bill (Sandy), and Kelly (Steve) Onions. Also in this large, loving family are 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2011, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6308 Quivira Road, Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.

Clorine Laverine “Barrows” Hicks, 84, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away at Hillside Village of De Soto on Thursday, February 24, 2011.
Clorine was preceded in death by two husbands Granville Barrows, and Carl Hicks, and son Gerald Barrows. Survivors include a daughter Rosalie Snider, Lenexa, Kansas; a daughter-in-law JoAn Barrows; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Melba Rose (Lungstrom) Morris

Melba Rose (Lungstrom) Morris, 90, died February 19, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Melba Rose (Lungstrom) Morris was born to Harry (Jack) Lungstrom and Ethel Lungstrom in Enterprise Kansas. She is survived by her brother Norman Lungstrom of Sayer, Pennsylvania; 2 children, David D. (Paula) Morris and Mary E. (Ralph) Morford of Shawnee, Kansas; 2 grandchildren, Christine (Chris) Knoblauch, Daniel Morford; and 4 great grandchildren. Her husband Joseph Arron Morris, sister Gloria Pieschl, and sister Doris Kingsland, preceded Melba in death.
Melba was a wife, mother, nurse, and patriot. Melba grew up in Enterprise, Kansas, and graduated from Enterprise High School. She attended and graduated from Halstead School of Nursing in 1944. She joined the U.S Army and served in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to the end of WWII in September of 1945. After returning from WWII she went to Kansas University for a year and then continued her nursing service in the Korean War through 1954 when she was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant having received 5 bronze stars.
Melba was an avid gardener, cook, photographer, and a friend to all. Melba canned as many as 500 jars of fruit and vegetables each year from her garden and would grind all her own flour to make the families bread and goodies every week. Everyone that came to visit would leave with something canned or baked from her kitchen. Melba ran her own business in the 1960’s called Melba’s Lapidary Shop and later did the accounting and scheduling for the family lawn and landscape business Morris Maintenance, Inc.
She was a member of the Kansas Nursing Association, Master Gardeners, and American Legion. All who knew her will miss Melba’s gentle spirit, kind words, generosity, and hard work.
The family requests in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to the Melba Rose Morris Nursing Fund c/o Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee Kansas, 66203. The “Melba Rose Morris Nursing Fund” will award a scholarship yearly to a person in the nursing field that shows outstanding compassion for patients, passion for their profession along with a high degree of involvement in community service.

Robert A. Dwight, 86, of Shawnee, passed away Friday February 18 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Bob was born April 2, 1924 to the late Elmer and Ada Dwight on the family farm in Coffey County, Kansas. Bob served in U.S. Army during the Korean War as an Anti-Aircraft Artilleryman. After Bob left the Army he married Marjory Dornes on May 24th 1953 in Burlington, Kansas. Their marriage of 25 years produced four children, James, Timothy, Ann, and Paul. Bob became a licensed Barber in 1954 and continued as a Barber until he retired in 1994. On March 22nd, 1980 he married his second wife, Marion Kile at Emanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park.
Bob was a life member of Shawnee American Legion Post #327, and was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park where he served as a Deacon and Greeter. Bob enjoyed mowing the church grass and was always there to help the neighbors with their yards when needed. Bob survived a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Ann, a step son Walter, and step daughter, Alice.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Marion, of 31 years; three sons, James, Timothy and Paul Dwight; two step sons, Paul and James Kile; two step daughters, Nola Culver and Janice Ingram; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation and Services
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
