Jessica Tracey (Thomas) Scott

Jessica Tracey (Thomas) Scott, 32, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her sleep on New Year’s Day, 2011.

Jessica was born April 1, 1978 in Ness City, Kansas, to Randy and Millie (Fagerquist) Thomas. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1996 and earned her BS in finance from the University of Phoenix.  She was a long time employee of Bank of America, currently working as Vice President of the Special Assets Group.

The joys of her life were her children, Owen and Tracey.  She loved being a mom and being a kid with the kids.  She was always taking them on  fun excursions and their life was full of adventure.  Her motto for life was “Live, Laugh, Love”.  Jessica loved her family, her friends, and her God.  She found joy in football (Chiefs and K-State) and watching Owen play baseball. Other passions include tending her plants and flowers, Kenny Chesney music and concerts, and reality TV. She made everyone she knew a better person and never met a stranger.

Jessica is survived by her two children, Owen Thomas Scott, 10 and Tracey Dinan Scott, 6; partner in life, John Scott, Kansas City, Missouri; parents, Randy and Millie Thomas, Shawnee, Kansas; sister and brother-in-law, Erin and John Vargas, Olathe, Kansas; nieces, Olivia and Summer Vargas, Olathe, Kansas; grandmother, Eloise Thomas, Dighton, Kansas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than we can count!!!   Those who preceded Jessica in death are celebrating with her in heaven. They include her grandparents, Harold and Gertrude Fagerquist and Marion Thomas; and father-in-law, Mike Scott.

We will cherish you forever, sweet Jess. EMAW!!!

  1. Gwen Longbine Says:

    Randy and Millie,

Just heard the news, I just want you to know that we are thinking of you. As you may know, we lost our son at the age of 15 6 1/2 years ago. I can remember when Jessica used to babysit Greg. Now they are together after all this time. I can tell you first hand that losing a child is the toughest thing I’ve ever dealt with, it will take you a long time to make sense of it all. But in time, you may learn to accept it and cherish the memories that you have. We are here if you need to talk. Blessings and prayers for God to give you strength in these next few days, weeks and months.

    Gwen Longbine

Although I have not seen the girls in years, I remember them like yesterday. Jessica was a fun kid, smart and witty, and not afraid of anything. She will be so missed.

If there is anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to call.

    xxox Becky

I worked with Jessica at Bank of America. I got to know her really well when she joined Toastmasters and also with her participation in the bank’s Diversity Network. I could see how talented she was and the drive she had to better herself. While she was obtaining her Finance Degree I always used to encourage her every time I saw her. I was so proud that she did finish. She worked very hard for it. She loved her kids and talked about them all the time. She will be missed. She used to walk down the hallways here at the bank and I will miss seeing her smiling face every day. My prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Sylvia Smith

A death ends and a life begins,
a baby cry’s and a old women dies.
We take for granted this gift we call time.
We can’t chose how we die,
but we can chose how we live.
Love don’t hate, do it, don’t wait.
    Slow down and look around.
    Take the time to appreciate
everything even the things you hate.
I don’t know why good people have to die,
but eventually we all have to say goodbye.

God Bless you and your Family
