Oneta Cusack

Oneta L. Cusack passed away on September 28, 2010, at Overland Park Regional Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1916, in Ewing, Missouri, and spent her childhood in Quincy, Illinois. Following her marriage to Thomas Cusack, she spent her life in the Kansas City area. Her final years were spent well cared for by the gracious people at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living. In her youth, she worked in the accounting department at Beta Sigma Phi International, a women’s business sorority, and later retired from Western Auto’s headquarters.
She was preceded in death by her son John Cusack, her sister Leona Wiseman, and brother Leonard Dowling. Her daughter Patricia Charbonneau, and her seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren will miss her.

Graveside Services
A private-family memorial service will be held graveside at Resurrection Cemetery on Monday, October 4, 2010, at 10:00 am.
Marvin R. Landis

Marvin R. Landis, 75, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at home on Monday, September 27, 2010.
Marvin was born December 15, 1934, to Orville and Doris (Rodgers) Landis at the family home on Willard Avenue. He graduated from Argentine High School in 1952. He then attended Kansas State University but his studies were interrupted by serving 3 years in the United States Marine Corps in the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. Following the War, Marvin returned to Kansas City and began his law enforcement career with the Rock Island Railroad in 1956 and in (1980) he continued his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1993.
Marvin has been a Mason for the past 54 years and a member of the Ben Hur Lodge of which his grandfather and father helped to construct. He was a member of the Abdullah Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7397, Lenexa, Kansas.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Orville Leon. Survivors include his wife Mary of the home; four daughters, Shannon Landis, Dorene Kedney, Colene Crawley and Stephanie Colgan; one son Christopher Landis; eight grandchildren Nicholas, and Nathan Madl, Ariel, and Jared Eason, Jordan Crawley, Samantha, and Cyrena Colgan, Cole Kedney; niece Pamela (Joey) Puckett; and his dog Rudy.

Visitation and Funeral Service
Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday September 29, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the chapel with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
James G. Swanson, Sr.

Jim G. Swanson, Sr. 54, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away September 27, 2010.
Jim was born December 31, 1955, in Kansas City Missouri, to Fred and Beverly (Ryan) Swanson. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 1974.
Jim is survived by daughter Amy Theiss (Josh) and 3 grandchildren; son Jimmy Swanson (Jordan); mother Beverly Hedquist; grandmother Ruth Ryan; brothers, Mike Swanson (Susie) and Jeff Swanson (Sherri); and by his dog Roxy.
Donations in memory of Jim may be made in lieu of flowers to Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th Street, Merriam, Kansas 66203.
Visitation and Funeral Service

Vada G. Clark

Vada G. Clark, 81, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the Sweet Life of Rosehill.
Vada was born February 11, 1929, in Jetmore, Kansas to Harry and Florence (Lupfer) Schechter. Vada attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. Vada is a long time member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, and was employed as a secretary for Flint Elementary School for 17 years. She was a 25 year volunteer for Shawnee Mission Medical Center and an active member of Cancer Action.
Vada was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: William H., Bruce D., Loren A. and Dale L. Schechter. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Robert; three sons and their wives, Charles (Chris), Shawnee, Kansas, Carl (Marjorie), Shawnee, Kansas, and Donald (Catherine) Rosenberg, Texas; one sister Dorothy (Ralph) Morris, Colorado Springs, Colorado, a brother Richard (Joann) Schechter, Monroe, Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Vada will be remembered as an exemplary wife, mother and grandmother.

Betty Ardene Munson Hawks

Betty Ardene Munson Hawks, 74, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Ardene was born February 24, 1936, at her parent’s country home in Emporia, Kansas. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1953. On July 18, 1959, Ardene married Donald Hawks in Emporia, Kansas. Donald preceded her in death on February 9, 1998, after 39 years of marriage.
She was an active member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.
Ardene is also preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Orpha Allen Munson and her brother, Gayle Munson. Ardene is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Abbott, a sister, Carlene Fuller, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., National Office, 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 710, Washington, DC 20036. Please designate that this donation go directly to funding the lupus research program in ‘search for a cure of lupus’ in honor of a beloved mother, sister and friend Betty Ardene Hawks; or to a children’s charity of your choice.

Marcia L. Werp, 60, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away September 23, 2010.
Marcia was born August 21, 1950, in Pratt, Kansas. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Early Childhood Development and was employed at the Children’s Place in Kansas City, Missouri.
Marcia is survived by her husband David L. Werp; her son Collin Davis (Jennifer); grandchildren, Noah, Kathryn, and Brianna; daughter, Allison Fleming (Patrick); and siblings, Christi Norman, Sharon Summer, Robert Millen, Richard Millen, and Lynn Millen.

Sandy Foster, 60, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Sandy was born July 22, 1950 in Kirksville, Missouri, to Garnet L. and Helen Dye. She graduated from Argentine High School in 1968. She worked as a bank teller for Metcalf Bank in Olathe and had previously worked at Shawnee State Bank, Twin City State Bank, and Commerce Bank.
She is survived by her mother, Helen Dye, of Shawnee, Kansas, and her brother, Michael Dye and his wife, Clytie, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation and Graveside Services
Visitation is 12 – 1 pm, Friday, September 24, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with graveside services following at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Ken Hodge

Ken Hodge, loving son, brother, uncle and friend passed away September 20, 2010. He was born January 30, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a lifelong resident of Johnson County.
Ken graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1977. He loved to be outside, fish and gather with friends. Ken was an avid sports fan and loved KU Basketball.
Ken is survived by his loving companion, Gwen Johnson; parents Ray and Marguerite Hodge; sisters Barbara Hodge, Kathy and husband Doug Stevens; nephew Dustin Stevens and wife Megan; nieces Whitney Stevens and fiancé David Franco, Kali Buchanan and husband William.

David Paul Luse

David Paul Luse, 61, Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010, at the St. John’s Health Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
David was born March 1, 1949 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Elgie and Elva (Crecelius) Luse. He was a veteran of the United States Army. David graduated with a BA degree from the University of Texas. He was employed with Spirit Aerosystems in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David had been a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Elva Mae Luse on April 8, 2004. Survivors include his father, Elgie Luse, Shawnee, Kansas; two sisters, Karla Mauck, Overland Park, Kansas and Brenda M. David, Pawhuska, Oklahoma; one nephew, Larry Mauck, Shawnee, Kansas; five nieces, Sheri Bechtel, Kansas City, Missouri, Misty Collene, Shawnee, Kansas, Michelle David, Macomb, Michigan, Melissa Owen, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Nicole David, Raytown, Missouri; and 16 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 am Thursday at the Chapel.
Edward (Ed) Moore, Sr.

Edward (Ed) Wayne Moore, Sr., 72 of Gardner/Spring Hill, Kansas, passed away September 16th, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born on October 10th, 1937 to Louis (Frank) and Gladys Moore of Bonner Springs, Kansas. He was the oldest of six children. Ed attended Merriam Grade School and McDaniel Grade School. He also attended St. Joseph High School in Shawnee, Kansas. Ed was a carpenter his entire life. He worked at Meyer Lumber Company in 1953. He built many homes in Johnson County and in 1969 he started his own commercial construction company, Ed Moore Construction Company in Kansas City, Kansas. He built many commercial restaurants, office buildings, and schools throughout the greater Kansas City area. The office relocated to Gardner, Kansas, in 1994 when his family moved there from Kansas City, Kansas. He was a member of the Carpenters Union #168 for 35 years.
Ed was a very devout Catholic. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Edgerton, Kansas. He was highly involved in the church and helped with several remodeling projects. Ed was a member of the Golden Oldies Car Club for over twenty years. He participated in many car shows and cruises all over the country. He won many trophies. His most prized car was his red 1953 Chevy Convertible. It remains in the family today.
Ed loved his family. He was a very devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. His greatest joy was anything that involved his children, grandchildren, and later in life, his great-grandchildren. No matter how hard of a day Ed had, he never missed any activities that his family had going on that evening. Ed had a contagious smile and when you saw him, you couldn’t help but to smile right back at him. He also had bright, blue eyes that would light up a room.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Moore. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy, of the home; children: Christine Michelle Mirocke and husband, Tony, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Edward Wayne Moore, Jr. and wife, Teri, of Gardner/Spring Hill, Kansas, and Jolana Kay Simpson and husband, Terry, of Gardner/Spring Hill, Kansas; grandchildren: Edward Wayne Moore III and wife, Jeni, of Gardner, Kansas, Dustin Robert Moore, and wife Heather, of Spring Hill, Kansas, Dominic Anthony Mirocke, Andrew Geoffrey Mirocke, and Peter Edward Mirocke of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Amanda Jo Simpson, Hillary Kay Simpson, and Shelby Lynn Simpson of Gardner/Spring Hill, Kansas; and great-grandchildren: Blake Edward Moore, Kaleb Anthony Moore, and Dylan Robert Moore of Gardner, Kansas, Colt Edward Moore of Spring Hill, Kansas.
Ed was very loved by his whole family and will be greatly missed. He will always be in our prayers and in our hearts. Even though he is not here, his spirit and love will remain with us.
