Harvinder Singh

Harvinder Singh, 55, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at the St. Luke’s South Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas.

   

Mr. Singh was born November 1, 1954, in Lakh Pur, India. He received his B.S. degree at Bristol University in England. He was a veteran of the Royal Air Force. Harvinder moved to the United States in the early 1980’s. He was employed with Sprint for 25 years.

 

Survivors include his wife, Anjila Singh; two sons, Sanjeet P. Singh and Jaspreet Singh all of Overland Park, Kansas; father and mother, Dev Singh Hayre and Bakhshis Kaur Hayre, Kingsburg, California; brothers, Kulvinder Singh Hayre, Halifax, Canada and Stuart Singh Hayre, Novato, California; two sisters, Jill Kailey, Kingsburg, California and Julie Hayre-Adamson, Huntington Beach, California and two aunts, Gurmeet Gill, Woodland, California and Darshan Gill, Surrey, Canada; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

 

Funeral Service and Visitation

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Chapel.

Dennis N. Carter

July 23, 2010

Dennis N. Carter, 56, of Overland Park, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at the University of Kansas Hospital.   

 

Dennis was born January 27, 1954 to Marian and Norman Carter in Kansas City, Missouri.  He graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1972.  After high school Dennis attended Kansas State University and received a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture.  Dennis is a member of American Society of Landscape Architects.  He enjoyed spending time fishing for bass, crappie and trout or playing a round of golf with his friends. 

 

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Norman Carter, in July of 1990. 

 

He is survived by his loving mother Marian, two sisters, Debbie Ferguson and husband Larry, and Judy Fritts; three nieces, Belinda Malara and husband Matt, Kelley Lee and husband Jeff, Lauren Ferguson; two great nephews, Nik Lee and Myles Malara.

Nancy E. (Duggins) Ruder

July 22, 2010

Nancy E. (Duggins) Ruder, 55, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2910,  at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

 

Nancy was born September 21, 1954, to William and Mary Duggins in Kansas City, Missouri.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1972.  Nancy worked as an Accounts Receivables clerk for Santa Fe Distributing for 22 years.

 

Nancy always welcomed friends and family with open arms and saw the best in all.  Nancy was a lady and the true meaning of Grace.  She loved spending time with her family and always put the needs of them before her own. 

 

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mary Duggins, a brother Michael Duggins, and a sister Susan Channell. 

 

She is survived by her loving companion of 17 years, Bud Penner; her daughters, Beth Ruder, Johanna Ruder, and Nicole Penner; a granddaughter, Savannah; sisters, Mary and Ron Welker and Patty and Chris Patterson; in law’s, Laura and Jeff Miller, Sue and Steve Sharpe, Diane and Kevin Fonte, Amy and Larry Bowline, Jan Ruder, Nick Ruder, Nick Ruder, Sr., and lifelong friends Barbara and Frank Rock.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Chapel. 

Kathleen M. Grace

July 22, 2010

Kathleen M. Grace, 84, of Mission, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Sweet Life at Rosehill.    Kathleen was born January 20, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas. 

 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 yrs, C. Robert Grace, her parents, Alfonso and Agnes Fischer, three sisters, Clara, Wanda, and Bernice. 

 

Kathleen is survived by her daughter Deborah Grace, and son Ronald Grace. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sweet Life of Rosehill and Odyssey Hospice for the care Kathleen received during her stay.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas 66202; or Odyssey Hospice, 800 E. 101st Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. 

 

Visitation and Funeral

 

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, July 26 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  A rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m.   Mass of Christian burial will follow the rosary at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. 

Price D. Wickersham

Price D. Wickersham, 87, of Fairway, Kansas, passed away July 21, 2010 at his home. 

 

Price was born August 17, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Price D. and Ruth (Atwood) Wickersham.  He served in the US Army during WWII.  He graduated from University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He was united in marriage to Alice Anderson, from this union three children were born. 

 

Price started his professional career at Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City.  He progressed through a series of jobs that led him to what is now Silcon Valley, Denver, and then back to Kansas City where he headed engineering for DIT-MCO International. 

 

Price was a world traveler; he made a point of experiencing the cultures of Japan, China, Europe, Turkey, and South America.

 

Price was preceded in death by a brother, Wyman Wickersham.

 

He is survived by his wife Alice, his daughters, Joan Papineau, Deborah Lowery, his son, John Wickersham, and their spouses.  He is also survived by his grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 1900 W. 75th St. Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.

 

Memorial Service

 

An informal memorial gathering and reception will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Wickersham family home, 5628 Mission Road, Fairway, Kansas.

 

 

 

 

Dian Bachenberg

July 20, 2010

Dian Bachenberg 63, of Lenexa, Kansas, went to be with the angels in Heaven on July 20, 2010, at her residence. 

 

Dian was born February 24, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Douglas and Doris Mould. 

 

Dian is survived by her loving husband Steven of the home; two sons, John and Mark; two brothers Douglas and David; and two grandchildren Addison and Maddox Bachenberg.

 

 

Services

 

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, Kansas 67502.

George E. Tomlinson

July 19, 2010

George E. Tomlinson, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. 

 

George was born March 22, 1927, to Dr. Louis and Vinnie Tomlinson in Harveyville, Kansas.  After graduating from high school George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  After returning from the service, George attended Washburn University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.  On August 11, 1951 George married Charlotte Roemer in Lorain, Ohio. 

 

After college George went to work for the Social Security Administration, he retired after 30 years of service in 1986.  George was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Harveyville American Legion Post 209, Disabled American Veterans, and the Bristol Hill United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer for eleven years, during the time the current church was being constructed.  George also served as a Cub Scout Leader, and took great pride in attending his sons and grandchildren’s school activities. 

 

George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Charlotte; two sons, Robert Tomlinson and wife Carole, Bruce Tomlinson and wife Becky; and five grandchildren, Raina, Jamie and wife Tori, Matthew, Phillip, and Christopher Tomlinson.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bristol Hill United Methodist Church.

James “Bob” Tolin, Sr.

James “Bob” Tolin, Sr. 85, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away July 19, 2010.  

 

Bob was born May 17, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas, to John E. and Agnes (Etchingham) Tolin.  He served in the US Navy during WWII and was employed by Rock Island Railroad for 46 years.

 

He was active in Johnson County Sports programs and coached 3&2 Baseball for many years. 

 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mae Tolin; his son James R. Tolin, Jr. (Lou Ann) of Bellingham, Washington; his daughter Nancy S. Tolin of Clovis, California; one sister, Lois Moore of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

 Memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the City Union Mission, 1100 E. 11th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64106.

Robert Wendell Bryant

July 15, 2010

Robert (Bob) Wendell Bryant, 86, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Overland Park, Kansas. 

 

Bob was born February 20, 1924 to Floyd and Virginia Pearl Bryant in Cameron, Missouri.  He graduated from William Chrisman High School and received an Associate’s degree from Penn Valley Community College.  Bob served in the U.S. Army with the 104th Infantry Division during World War II. He retired from Bendix Corporation in 1989 after 33 years of service. 

 

Bob was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  He enjoyed photography, woodworking, sailing, traveling with his family and biking.  At the age of 62, Bob first participated in Biking across Kansas.   He rode his bicycle across Kansas 13 times. 

 

Bob is preceded in death by his son George, wife Joan, grandson Joshua Bryant, and great grandson, Jonathan Haake-Lopez.  He is survived by four daughters, Patricia M. Haake and husband Dan, Becky J. Bryant and husband Michael J. Stefancik Jr., Jane Coulter and husband Fred, Joan Robinson and husband Michael; three sons, Terry Bryant and wife Darlene, Tom Bryant and wife Kathleen, Robert William Bryant; a sister Virginia Walker; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 19 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa.  Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. 

Margaret M. Orser

July 15, 2010

Margaret M. Orser, 91, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away July 15, 2010, at her daughter’s home town in Kaufman, Texas.  

 

Mrs. Orser was a lifelong resident of the Shawnee area.  She was a lifetime member of Good Sam’s Club and attended Greenwood Baptist Church. 

 

Mrs. Orser was preceded in death by her husband Frank O. Orser on July 31, 1998, and by a daughter Delores Jean Orser.  Survivors include four children, Diann and Leo Boehm, Frank and Sheryl Orser, Patty and Jim Sauser, Joe and Phyllis Orser, Mark and Pam Orser, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. 

 

The pallbearers for the service will be her grandchildren: Steve Fullington, Frank Orser, Jr., Tim Orser, Mark Orser, Jr., Ronnie Orser, David Orser, and Dale Dotson.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

A visitation will be 6-8 pm Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  The funeral will be 11 am Monday, July 19, 2010, also at the funeral home with burial following in Bonner Springs Cemetery.
