Herman “Gene” Burns

Herman “Gene” Burns, 74, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away at home on Friday, July 9, 2010. 

 

Gene was employed by Kansas City Power & Light  for 40 years until his retirement in 1994. Gene was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Odd Fellows. His hobbies included bowling, golf, fishing, hunting his favorite hobby was his family.

 

Gene was preceded in death by his parents George Frances and Mary Lou (Mills) Burns, a sister Mary Bartkowski, and a brother George Burns.   Survivors include his wife of 55 years Anna Marie of the home;  daughter Nancy Orcutt, Kansas City, Missouri; a son Steve Burns, Merriam, Kansas; three grandchildren Jason (Robyn) Orcutt, San Diego, California, Jeffrey Orcutt, Kansas City, Missouri, Ashley Orcutt, Columbus, Ohio, and one great grandchild.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100
Kansas City, Missouri 64114.

 

 Visatation and Memorial Services

 

Memorial service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time and following the service.

    About 69 years ago a new boy came to school and that evening I found out he lived right behind me. We were friends all the way through High School. We have been in sporadic contact since then, usually about twice a year at High School reunions. We have always been close friends. Marie and family, I know your loss is great and all of us feel a part of that loss. For me, an era has ended, Goodbye Gene, old friend!
