Carolyn Irene Luckett Furmanski Smith

Carolyn Irene Luckett Furmanski Smith, 77, died May 31, 2010 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Carolyn was born November 16, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas, the eldest daughter of Thomas Ralph Luckett and Mary Louise (Mulich) Luckett. She graduated from St. Peter’s Grade School and Ward High School, class of 1950. She married Robert D. Furmanski on November 23, 1950. From that union three children were born. Robert D. Furmanski died August 8, 1964. On August 17, 1973, Carolyn married Clyde E. Smith and became mother to three step-children. Clyde E. Smith died March 18, 2003.
Carolyn was employed by various brokerage firms – Merrill Lynch, B.C. Christopher, and E.F. Hutton during the 50s and 60s. In 1964 she was employed by the U.S. Government, serving first at the Veterans Administration Regional Office and then transferring to the Federal Aviation Administration Air Route Control Center, Olathe, Kansas. She worked there until her marriage in 1973. During the next 20 years she was involved in Camp Fire Boys & Girls and has continued her membership in that organization for 50 years.
She is a member of the Olathe Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as Regent for 6 years and Historian for 3 years. She has served the Kansas Society Daughters of the American Revolution as State Chairman DAR Museum for 3 years and State Chairman American Indians Committee for 3 years. She served as a docent at the Ensor Farmsite and Museum, Olathe for 7 years; the last two years as the Site Director of the Museum. She was a charter member of Chapter 1994 National Association Retired Federal Employees where she served as President for 1 year, Secretary for 6 years, and Service Officer for 8 years.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Olathe for 30 years until she moved to Overland Park and became a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Carolyn is survived by her children: Vicki Furmanski Speace (Lyle), Robert T. Furmanski, John D. Furmanski, Brian K. Smith (Maria), Stephanie Smith Salter and Candace Smith Hill (Randy); 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; and sisters Marilyn Fleming (Bill), Luvena Luckett (Bruce), and Marcella Ishum (Larry).

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mission, Kansas. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
Mark “Brad”ford Roodhouse

Mark “Brad”ford Roodhouse, 27, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 28, 2010. He left behind his cherished Mother and Father, Linda and Mark Roodhouse and “little” sister Amanda Kay Roodhouse, Maternal Grandmother Bonnie Henke, and Paternal Grandfather John Roodhouse.
Today he was met at Heaven’s Gates by his Grandfather Milton F. Henke, Grandmother Naomi Roodhouse, Special Uncle Cleve Robison, and Aunt Kathy Robison Goalen.
Although we know there was much rejoicing in Heaven, we here on Earth miss him beyond words. Brad was a wonderful, loving, sensitive, young man who loved and adored all his family. Brad graduated from Mill Valley High School. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, playing video games, watching and participating in sports, especially hockey, and devouring tacos!
Brad is also survived by many special aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom cherished their beloved nephew and cousin for the short time the Lord shared him with them here on Earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Pet Connection, 5918 Broadmoor Street, Mission, Kansas 66202.

Services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, with the Reverend Jim Heaton of Westside Family Church officiating.

Richard A. Klasinski, 78, Kansas City, Kansas, died Friday, May 28, 2010, following illness and hospice care in the family home.
Richard joined the Army in 1951. He was accepted in the paratroopers and was honorably discharged Staff Sergeant from the 82nd Airborne Division in 1954. Richard attended Wyandotte High School, Donnelly College, and graduated from Rockhurst University. He retired from IBM as a Senior Systems Analyst, IMS Data Base Specialist following 30 years service.
Richard is survived by his wife, Pat Klasinski; daughters Danette, (Mark) Mosher, Kathy (Steve) Lufcy, Carrie (Sean) Trompeter, David (Klasinski) Kelly, Anna (John) Powell, Jamie Klasinski; grandchildren: Andrea Jamerson, Ryan, and Michael Rice, Cory Trompeter, Reagan Christie; and newborn great-grandson, Koen Rice.

David Lynn Jacobs

David Lynn Jacobs, 49, of Paola, Kansas, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010, in his Paola home following a five month battle with melanoma brain cancer.
David was born June 12, 1960, to Jack Jacobs and Shirley (Kauffman) Jacobs in Denver, Colorado. After growing up in Colorado, and graduating from Hill City High School in 1978. Dave attended Kansas State University in Manhattan where he earned a BS in Journalism and Mass Communications with a minor in Computer Science.
Dave is survived by his wife Deborah (Barber) Jacobs; daughter, Jennifer Denise Jacobs; son, Kyle David Jacobs; father, Jack Jacobs; mother Shirley Jacobs both of Hill City, Kansas; aunts and uncles, Roger and Louise Odle, Linda Jacobs, Art and Jan Kauffman; three cousins, Craig Odle, Tracy Rake, and Brenda Showers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Carolyn Barber of Paola, Kansas; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Karen and Jeff Marshall, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Becca and John Gilliford of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother- in-law and his wife, Matt and Lisa Barber of Overland Park, Kansas; and four nephews, Ryan Marshall, Woodie Gilliford, Nicholas Barber and Nathan Barber. David was preceded in death by his sister Christine Gail Jacobs.

Stanley P. Brinkman, age 84 of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Stanley served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during WW II.
His wife, Belle, of 33 years who passed away, widowed Stanley in 1980. Stanley loved Belle very much. Stanley is survived by his three children, Erik (Cari) Brinkman, Lenexa, Kansas, Albert Brinkman, Phoenix, Arizona and Kathleen Perrin, Los Angeles, California; two brothers Gerald Brinkman, Cabazon, California; Dennis Brinkman, Butte, Montana; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ruth Bruns, 89, of Lenexa, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord on May 25, 2010.
Ruth was born in Smithton, Illinois, to Clem and Amelia Quirin. She was married to Irvin Bruns and was devoted to him and their three daughters. She was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church and was a wonderful Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irv and daughters, Judith Ann and Sandi. She is survived by her daughter JoAnn and husband Ross; her daughter, Linda; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren, which she loved and adored.
Mom, we have so many wonderful memories that we will hold so closely. We thank the Lord for you. You were our everything! We know that now is the time for you to be with your lord. You will be dearly missed, but we will see you again at Heaven’s Gate. Love, Your family.

John Bradford Glaser

John Bradford Glaser, 33, Olathe, Kansas, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, in the line of duty while attempting a rescue in a structure fire.
John was born October 7, 1976, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Arvon and Patty (Reardon) Glaser. He was a 1995 graduate of Blue Valley Northwest High School. John earned his BA degree in 2000 from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
On June 21, 2004, John began his career as a firefighter with the Shawnee, Kansas Fire Department. He was on the Swift Water Rescue Team and the HazMat Team.
John is survived by his wife, Amber (Plumb) Glaser; son, Brecken Joseph Glaser; daughter, Emma Grace Glaser; father, Arvon Glaser; mother, Patty Glaser, both of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Michael Joseph Glaser, Los Angeles, California; grandparents, Joseph and Elizabeth Reardon, Wilmington, Delaware; aunts and uncles, Gene and Pat Glaser, Tom Reardon, Bill Reardon, Joan and Donald Stoller and Betty Ann Reardon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tim and Kristi Plumb, Lawrence, Kansas; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Robin and Steve Sowers, St. Louis, Missouri and Renee and Jason Newhall, Georgetown, Indiana; five nieces and many cousins.

JoAnn McLain, 80, of Lenexa, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas.
She was born June 22, 1929, to Harry and Hazel Robbins of Kansas City, Missouri. JoAnn graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1946. She married Jack McLain on October 4, 1947. She was a loving and caring wife and full-time homemaker, and worked at the family business, McLain’s Bakery, during holidays.
JoAnn was a member of Overland Park Christian Church and enjoyed many years in CWF Circle 1 at the church. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, a member of the Overland Park Lioness Club, and a member of the 4th Wednesday Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jaclynn Collett, her sister, Ada Simpson, and her parents. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack; son Mike (Helen) of Prairie Village, and daughter Julie (Nick) of Overland Park; grandchildren Carrie Parazin (Chris) of Olathe, and Nathan, Jonah, and Jenna Heng; and 3 great-grandsons, Vin, Grady and Campbell Parazin.

Phyllis J. Di Maio

Longtime resident of Redondo Beach, formerly of Shawnee, Phyllis J. Di Maio, 63, lost her long battle with cancer on May 12, 2010.
Phyllis was the eldest daughter born to Anthony and Beatrice Di Maio of Shawnee Mission, Kansas on October 22, 1946. She spent her formative years in Kansas. She is a 1964 graduate of Bishop Miege High School, and after completing her degree at the University of Kansas, began flying for Pan American World Airways in 1969. Phyllis then moved to California, continuing to fly for Pan Am until she joined United Airlines in 1986.
Phyllis is survived by her sister Janet Di Maio, of Overland Park, Kansas; brother Stephen Di Maio of Mission, Kansas; aunt, uncle and cousins, Roger, Barbara, Pam and Patsy Provost of South Haven, Michigan; and a loving Pan Am and United family.
