Caitlyn Elizabeth Daley

Caitlyn Elizabeth “Snuggly” Daley, age 7, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at her home in Shawnee. Caitlyn was a first grader at Mize Elementary School. She loved bright colors, music, her cats, sharks, and Transformers. While Caitlyn’s time on this earth was cut short by illness, she was known by all as a fighter who beat the odds time and time again. She touched everyone she met with her infectious smile and expressive eyes. Everyone who knew her is a better person for it, having learned pure, unconditional love and true honesty. She will be missed by many. A private memorial will be held later this week. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made in her name to the Discovery Room at Mize Elementary School in Shawnee, Kansas, or the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Caitlyn is survived by her parents, Christine and Sean Daley, and a large extended family, both locally and across the country.
Matthew Benjamin Potts Fuller

Matthew Benjamin Potts Fuller born February 9, 2010, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2010 while attended by his parents and safely in his mother’s arms.
Our little Matthew came into our lives for such a short time, but touched so many while he was here. The doctors, nurses and other wonderful medical professionals that attended him both at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and at Children’s Mercy Hospital were Matthew’s guardian angels and he has now become ours.
He is survived by his parents Todd and Shy as well as his Potts and Fuller siblings Jeffery, Meghan, Abigail, Noah, Alex, Aimee, Robert and Andre.
Graveside Service
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.
John Stanek

John Stanek, 72, of Shawnee, KS, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home.
John was born March 5, 1937 in Edina, Minnesota to Carl and Margaret (Newman) Stanek. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. John was united in marriage to his beloved wife Maryann Novak on February 20, 1971. He worked for 33 years as a salesman for 3M and during retirement, for Proctor & Gamble. He was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving for many years as an usher at the 10:30 Mass. Through the years John and Maryann developed many friendships that John enjoyed even after Maryann’s passing in 2009.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sandra O’Connor, and by his wife Maryann on December 8, 2009. He is survived by his two daughters. Melissa Stanek, Kansas City, MO., and Regina Etienne and her husband Sean, of Landstuhl, Germany, his brother Charles Stanek and his wife Chista of Bloomington, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Joseph Novak and his wife Roselyn of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th Street, Merriam, Kansas 66203 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5901 Flint, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.
Visitation and Funeral Service
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, February 14, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with a rosary at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 15, 2010, at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Private inurnment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.

Mary E. Hansen, 81, Shawnee, passed away Saturday evening, February 6, 2010, at Trinity Nursing and Rehab.
Mary was born October 31, 1928 in Marion, Indiana. On March 20 1955 she married Neil Hansen in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary was a member of Overland Park Lutheran Church, where she taught bible study classes and was active in numerous church activities. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family fishing, bowling and watching her beloved Cornhuskers and Royals. She was a great cook and will be remembered for her Dutch Apple Pie.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Neil C. Hansen; her children, Cindy Wilson and husband Lloyd, Memphis Tennessee, Terri Bryant and husband Frank, Basehor, Kansas, Steve Hansen and wife Lisa, Bonner Springs, Kansas; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank everyone who assisted in her care and for their compassion.

Kevin P. Nugent, 51, Shawnee, Passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kevin was born, February 26, 1958 to Jean Gilmer and Thad E. Nugent, Sr. in Kansas City, Missouri. Kevin attended Shawnee Mission West. He worked as a Jewelry Die Maker for the Green Jewelry Company. Kevin was a Martial Arts Instructor for Young Champions in Lenexa. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed woodworking, making jewelry, a good round of golf or a poker game with his friends.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Jean Gilmer, Shawnee, and Thad E. Nugent, Sr., Chesterfield, Missouri; the lights of his life, daughter, Shauna Benjamin, Bellevue, Nebraska and son Timothy Nugent, Martinsville, Illinois. He is also survived by two sisters, Jean Johnson, Knoxville, Ttennessee; Kathleen Wengert, Urbandale, Iowa; four nieces and three nephews. Kevin was preceded in death by his brother; Thad E. Nugent, Jr.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Timothy Nugent College Fund.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Barry L. Bales, 73, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away February 4, 2010. He was born July 19, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas.
Barry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Bales, by his mother, sisters, children, grandchildren, and hundreds of spiritual family who will miss him.
Donations may be made to Jehovah’s Witnesses Worldwide Work in memory of Barry.

Berniece ‘B’ Miller

Berniece Beatrice ‘B’ Miller, 77, peacefully passed away on February 2, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
‘B’ was born on January 14, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas, the youngest daughter of the late Eddie and Florene Meyer. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Albert and 5 children: son Steve and wife Jeannie of Annandale, Virginia; daughter Deb Shackelford and husband Jeff of Overland Park, Kansas; son David of Shawnee, Kansas; daughter Diane Hydeman and husband Kent of Roeland Park, Kansas; son Joseph of Harvard, Illinois. She also leaves behind 12 beautiful grandchildren: Lauren, Lindsay, Seth, Logan, Anastacia, Christina, Lance, Ana, Erik, Katarina, Elizabeth and Tristen. She is survived by her younger brother, Robert Meyer of Shawnee, Kansas, and preceded in death by sister, Mary Lou Gagahan.
‘B’ grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School, (today known as Shawnee Mission North High School) where she earned a couple of nicknames . . . as a “swell gal”, she was called “Blondie” for her golden locks and “Torchy” for her beautiful, melodic voice. Upon graduation from high school, ‘B’ married her lifelong sweetheart and only love, Albert, weeks prior to his deployment to the Korean War. It is Albert to whom she had written her first love letter to in first grade.
Professionally, ‘B’ was most recently associated with Prudential KC Realty where she was consistently recognized as a multi-million dollar sales agent. She was very passionate and dedicated about her career and spent over 40 years in real estate. With 30+ years as a real estate sales professional, she personally assisted many families throughout Kansas City with their achievement of home ownership. Her career also included the responsibility as the chief of operations for her husband’s company, M&M Masonry where she managed all back office reporting, accounting and support.
‘B’ was active as a Red Coater in the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce; Committee for Veteran’s Tribute in Shawnee; Former President of PTA at St. Joseph High School, Shawnee; founding member of the St. Joseph’s High School fund-raising auction; Camp Fire troop leader; and volunteer for numerous charities including most recently, Advice and Aid Pregnancy Center .
‘B’ was well known throughout her life for her enduring positive attitude and energetic approach along with her non-stop full-of-life soul, always putting others first and smiles on the faces of everyone she met. Her love of life, music, family and friends filled the air, always sharing her love and affection over a glass of wine. She also enjoyed skiing and golf with her daughters and best friends. Never wanting the spotlight, she took over the room with her lovely smile and friendly demeanor. She will be forever missed for her style and grace.
The Miller family would like to give special thanks to Grace Hospice, American Companion Care, and The Sweet Life of Rosehill for their loving and compassionate care provided during her final days.

The Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the visitation till 8 p.m. The Catholic funeral mass and services will be held in her honor on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
Dorothy (Dady) Danko

Dorothy (Dady) Danko, age 90, died on February 1, 2010.
“Granny,” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be remembered for her baking, polka dancing, and letter-writing.
Dorothy was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Anton and Rose (Knoll) Dady. Her siblings were Frankie, John, Ceil, Rose, Chuck, and Tony. Dorothy married Michael Danko in 1942. Early in their marriage, Michael’s job with the U.S. Navy took the couple to California. They then returned to Minnesota, where their two children, Barbara and Michael, were born. The family moved to Lenexa, Kansas in 1957. She was an active member of Holy Trinity and St. Joseph Catholic Churches, the Lenexa Senior Center, and the Daughters of Isabella for many years.
Dorothy lived in two wonderful communities in her later years, Bluejacket high rise in Shawnee and Villa Saint Francis in Olathe. Dorothy’s family wishes to especially thank the staff and volunteers at Villa St. Francis for their loving care over the past 4 years.
Dorothy is preceded in death by husband Michael and siblings John, Ceil, Frankie, and Chuck. She is survived by siblings Rose Deschene and Tony (Marilyn) Dady; children Barbara (Bob) Slaughter and Michael (Linda) Danko; grandchildren Dana (Roy) Rati, Kara Slaughter, Patrick (Crystal) Danko, Steven Danko, and Kristin Danko; great-grandchildren Eric and Zach Rati and Channing Danko; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Villa St. Francis or Catholic Community Hospice.

Marcia Yvonne Carroll, 75, Raymore, Missouri, passed away Monday February 1, 2010 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
Marcia is survived by one daughter Michele (Brian) Hovermale, Shawnee, Kansas; one son Martin Carroll, Virginia; one sister Karen (Don) Carlo, Iowa; one brother Dean (Carole) Baerwald, Lampe, Missouri; and two grandsons Braeden and Colby Hovermale. Marcia is a member of Saved by Grace Fellowship Church in Raymore, Missouri.
