Cynthia Rose Cole
Cynthia Rose Cole, 59, went to her eternal reward on February 21, 2010 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Cindy was born on February 24, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Fred and Lucille Nachbar and attended St. Joseph Elementary School, the Loretto Academy, and St. Louis University. She worked as a radiology technician before meeting William Cole. They were married on March 18, 1971 in Denver, Colorado. The newlyweds moved to Boulder, Colorado where Bill attended the University of Colorado and played basketball for the Buffaloes. The two started a family with the birth of their son Robert and returned to the Kansas City area in 1974. Their family welcomed son Christopher in 1975 and daughter Erin in 1981.
Cindy earned her R.N. from Johnson County Community College in 1979. She worked in the Mother/Baby Unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She then worked in the Mother/Baby and Nursery Units at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She resumed her education while working at Shawnee Mission Head Start, earning her BSN from KU in 1996 and her Master’s degree and Nurse Practitioner’s License from KU in 1998. She continued her career as a nurse practitioner at KU Med West before finishing her career at Kansas City Women’s Clinic.
Cindy attained these professional accomplishments while serving as a wonderful mother to three children and “Mimi” to six grandchildren. She took great joy in the lives and accomplishments of those in her family. Cindy was always in the stands at her children’s and grandchildren’s countless sporting events and dance recitals. She loved watching KU basketball and one of her final joys was watching her son-in-law play for the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl 44. She was an avid reader and gardener and held a special place in her heart for the family vacations that she took to Disney World and Marco Island, Florida.
Cindy loved meeting people and brought excitement and fun to the lives of her family, friends, and patients. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Fred Nachbar. She is survived by her husband Bill Cole, her mother Lucille Nachbar, her brother, Fred Nachbar and family, her sister, Sherri Lawson and family, her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Hillary Cole, her son and daughter-in-law Chris and Jami Cole, her daughter and son-in-law Erin and Nick Leckey, her beloved six grandchildren, and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to be made in her name to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, 9720 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212 or Head for the Cure, 250 Richards Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64116.
Visitation and Funeral Service
The funeral Mass will be Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd Street, Lenexa, Kansas 66215, with a luncheon following. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 (Cindy’s birthday), at the church.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom. I just wanted to let you know that Jennifer and I thought the world of her. There were many times she was there for us through Jennifer’s pregnancies, she showed us such compassion. The world won’t be the same without her, but heaven won’t either, I imagine. Bill – praying for you my friend. Cindy was wonderful – something you could tell within a minute of meeting her.
Cole family,
It was always such a joy to attend my doctor’s appointments because I knew I was going to get to talk to Cindy. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren- sharing many stories as she helped plan Erin’s wedding and their wonderful trip to Disney World.
She will be missed greatly by the patients at KCWC.

To all the family,
Please know that our family has you all in our prayers. Cindy was a great friend and always interested in what was important to those around her. She loved people and brought fun and laughter to those who had the privilege to know her. It was evident at our first meeting how much she loved her family. Her grandchildren stories were precious and her imitations of their conversations were truly entertaining.
This last year she showed us all how to face a challenge and fight until the end. Her attitude was truly inspirational!
I will miss her so.
Love to all,
Dorothy Beattie

I attended the KU Nurse Practitioner program with Cindy. She was such a joy to be around. Her smile and quick witted sense of humor were infectious. She enjoyed life fully. I am so saddened that her beautiful life was cut short. I will not be able to attend the services. But, wanted you to know how far your wife and mother’s spirit extended. I will be praying for you all and for Cindy. May she already be in the palm of His hand. Sincerely, Kelly Winkler
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you more than I can express in words.I will always hold such joy and beautiful memories for the times we have shared over the past years.Cindy was a dear, beautiful spirit and she will live on in all of our memories. Much Love, Marsha
To the family of Cindy Cole~
Although I had only met Cindy once, I liked her immediately. She was a fireball, quick witted and spoke her mind. I liked that about her. I was also struck at how compassionate and passionate she was with regard to her family, friends and life in general. She spoke fondly of her loved ones and you could tell she held them dearly and close to her heart.
While now singing with the angels in the presence or our Lord, she no longer struggles with the devastation of that terrible disease. May she rest in peace and may God Bless each of you.
Sincerely,
Diane Carr
Lucille and family,
Please accept my condoences to you and the family. My prayers are with you. Maybe it would help your grief to know Cindy is now where she can continue helping people in her own way.
Love, Jean Ann

I just heard about your loss. I am so sorry and I want you to know I am thinking of you and what you and your family must be going through right now. Please accept my condolences. My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time.
I worked prn at Overland Park Regional Medical Center during the years that Cindy worked there. I have fond memories of her. I remember how “perky” and full of energy she was. She was always upbeat and a delight to work with. I am saddened to hear of her early exit from this world. She had a great career in nursing. I send my deepest sympathy to her husband, children, grandchildren and all her many friends.
Bill – Rosemary sent this a couple of weeks ago when I was out of town and I just got around to viewing today. So sorry to hear the sad news. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
To the Cole family,
I just found out about your loss today. Cindy was my provider at KCWC for many years and I always looked forward to seeing her. She would pick up the conversation right where we left off the previous visit. She was a very caring and compassionate person and although I only knew her in her professional capacity it was very obvious through our conversations how important all of you were to her and how much she valued family. I am stunned that she is gone. She left her mark on so many people. Prayers to all of you. Sincerely, Julie Stutheit
The bright light of Cindy has been in our memories and discussions for the past ten years. It is unbelievable to realize she is gone. I often remember when we had a race through menopause, observing her busy days as a dance mom, how close she was to her family, the love and care she provided our patients and how often she made me laugh.
She is still in my heart!
The Cole Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked as Cindy’s medical assistant for a while at KU Med West before I went back to nursing school. She was so much fun to be around and work with. She was a wonderful health care provider and so caring and she loved what she did. She will always hold a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Dear Bill and family
I just recenlty learned about Cindy’s battle with brain cancer and her death in February. I am deeply sorry that I was not aware. I worked with Cindy for years as a nurse at OPRMC. We grew up in Shawnee together and I and my sisters worked for her dad at Fred’s. We had so much fun reconnecting in later years talking about days at Fred’s.
I lost my sister Patty to brain cancer in 1992, Cindy knew her. Last month I lost my sister Peggy to cancer. I am confident that Cindy , Patty and Peggy have reunited in heaven.
I cannot imagine your deep grief. Indeed I am thinking of you all.
May God Bless you and continue to help you through this challenging time.
Mary Rose (Foley) Smith
