Madeline Nicole Zellmer

Madeline Nicole Zellmer, 13, Mission Hills, Kansas passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at her home.  

 

Madeline was born December 9, 1996 in Kansas City, Missouri to Todd and Kimberly (Shell) Zellmer. She attended Oak Park Carpenter Elementary School. 

 

Madeline is survived by her parents; sister, Megan Zellmer; grandparents, William and Patricia Shell, Sikeston, Missouri, and Ruth Zellmer, Columbus, Ohio; aunts and uncles, Mark and Martha Zellmer, Lenexa, Kansas, Eric Zellmer, Columbus, Ohio, Mike Shell, Boulder, Colorado and Pam Klosterman, Sikeston, Missouri; several cousins and many other family and friends.

 

Madeline’s family would like to thank Dr. Colliton, Dr. Graf, Amelia Mann and all of Madeline’s paras, nurses and therapists.

Eloise (Wray) Carter

Eloise (Wray) Carter, 88, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, Kansas.

 

Eloise was born September 15, 1921 in McLouth, Kansas to Albert and Mabel Wray.  On May 2, 1941 Eloise married Donald D. Carter in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was a member of the Overland Park Presbyterian Church. Eloise was an avid Bridge player and loved to travel.

 

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Dean Carter in 2008 and two sisters, Mary White and Erma Kervin in 2009. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Donald D. Carter; daughter, Linda Barker and husband, Ed, Mission Hills, Kansas; sister, Sandra Haar, Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Thomas Wray, Great Bend, Kansas and Jordan Wray, Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Lindsay Barker, Kristin Barker, Robert Carter, Kenneth Carter and Jennifer Carter; and two great grandchildren.

Betty I. Beckham, 87, Kansas City, Kansas,  passed away at Providence Place on Thursday, January 14, 2010.

 

Betty is survived by a daughter Sandra (Lonnie) White, and one great grandson Dalton.

Ruby Lorene Brown

Ruby Lorene Brown, 70, of Linwood, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010, at home surrounded by her family.  

 

Ruby was born April 6, 1939 to the late Clarence and Francis McMahan in Kansas City, Kansas.  Ruby enjoyed spending time with her family.  She looked forward to large family gatherings and taking her grandsons swimming in the summer.  Ruby traveled extensively with her husband B. J.  They traveled to Hawaii, California, and Branson. 

 

Ruby is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, B. J. Brown;  son, Dan White and his wife Lisa; step-son Roy Brown; three brothers, Ray, Clarence and Mary, and Bob McMahan;  four sisters, Donna and Jim Richard, Mary and Ron Brown, Alberta and Dwayne Daniels, and Debbie and Jeff Fenton; and ive grandsons, and eight great grandchildren.  A brother, Bill McMahan preceded Ruby in death.   

 

Visitation and Services

 

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010,  at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010,  at the Chapel.  Burial will follow in Monticello Cemetery in Shawnee.

Florence Marie Cottrell

Florence Marie Cottrell, 96, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

 

Florence is survived by her son Chris and wife Juli, Cottrell, Lawrence, Kansas; and two grandchildren Kayla and Kevin Cottrell.

Marvin W. Miller

January 12, 2010

Marvin W. Miller, 78, of Shawnee, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Kansas City, Kansas.   Marvin was born June 7, 1931 to the late Albert and Caroline Miller in Bigelow, Kansas.   After graduating from Frankfort High School in 1950, Marvin joined the Army and served as a Heavy Equipment Operator during the Korean War. 

At the conclusion of the war, Marvin was stationed in Germany for three years before returning home.  Marvin worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a Signal Maintainer for 42 years until his retirement in 1993.  Marvin married Pamela Beazley, December 31, 1994.   Marvin is survived by his loving wife Pamela (Beazley) Miller, a daughter, Eveline Johnson and her husband Greg Somers, of Plano, Texas.

 

Visitation and Services

 

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel.  Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery with full military honors.

Joel Blobaum

January 12, 2010

Joel Blobaum, 54, Lenexa, Kansas, died Tuesday, January12, 2010.   

 

Joel was born October 15, 1955, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Robert E. and Lois R. Blobaum. He graduated from Blair Senior High School in 1973, and the University of Nebraska in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science. He worked at newspapers in Alliance, Nebraska, Pampa, Texas, Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Columbus, Nebraska, where he was the editor and met and married Melodee Hall, his wife, on September 5, 1982.  He also worked at Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Missouri Department of Transportation in Lee’s Summit.  Most recently, he was the public information and communications manager for Johnson County, Kansas, a post he had held since January 2008. 

 

Joel was an avid baseball fan, supporting both the Yankees and the Royals, and participating in fantasy baseball leagues. He was a loving father and husband, active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and enjoyed reading biographies and history. 

 

Joel is survived by his wife, Melodee, Lenexa; son Andrew and girlfriend, Jill Gyulafia, Kansas City, Kansas; his mother, Lois, Blair, Nebraska; sister Cindy Kempcke (Bruce), Blair, Nebraska; brothers John, Omaha, Nebraska, David (Sara), Scottsdale, Arizona, and Robert, Morgantown, West Virginia; 11 nieces and nephews, and seven great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Blobaum.

Mary Catalano Beil

January 11, 2010

Mary Catalano Beil, 98, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away January 11, 2010.

 

 Mary was born in Sambuca, Sicily to Vito and Antonette Catalano.  She was preceded in death by her husband George Beil, and sons Robert and Veto Crabtree.  She was also preceded in death by her sister Katherine Fiorello and brothers George and Charles Catalano. 

 

She is survived by sisters Caroline DeMaria, and Josephine Brown;  a daughter-in-law Pat Crabtree;  three grandchildren Cindi, Christi, and John; and three great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation and Prayer Service

 

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Robert C. Mick

January 9, 2010

Robert C. Mick, 86, long-time resident of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. 

 

Bob graduated high school at 17 and then served 3 ½ years in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the battleship USS Indiana. After returning to civilian life, he attended the University of Kansas for two years and then married Lois Ann Arand of Alma, Kansas and started his family.  After working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, he retired in 1984.   

 

Bob was very active in U.S. Veteran organizations for the past 50+ years.  He served as Commander, 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, Financial Officer, Chaplin and Sergeant-at-Arms of the American Legion, Post 327, Shawnee, Kansas and for 37 years he enjoyed managing the post’s Bingo activities.  He was also a member of the VFW, Post 7397, Lenexa, Kansas.

 

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lois, in 1996.  He is survived by four children: son Ron Mick and his wife Martha, Montgomery, Texas, daughter Patty Karnes and her husband David, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, daughter Linda Burke, Phoenix, Arizona, and son Dennis Mick, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; as well as his love of the past several years, Lila Collette, Shawnee, Kansas.  In addition, he leaves nine grandchildren: Todd McLaughlin, Tracy Boxler, Bryan Conger, Michael Karnes, Jon Burke, Jennifer Pemberton, Adrian Conger, Jason Burke, Krissy Alexander; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. 

 

His family takes comfort in knowing that he accepted Jesus, was saved and will spend eternity with His Father in heaven.

Samuel W. “Woody” Ensor

January 8, 2010

Samuel W. “Woody” Ensor, 90, Shawnee, Kansas passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Lakeside Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska.

 

Woody was a graduate of Maryland Art Institute, Baltimore, Maryland, June 3, 1941 and post-graduate, June 2, 1942. He married, the love of his life, Frances Leo on July 31, 1948. Woody worked as a graphic artist for Davis Paint Company, Baltimore, Maryland, Seidlitz/Colony Paint Company, Lenexa, Kansas and retired from Colony Paint Company in 1989, which later became Valspar.  In 1974, Woody was a member of the Shawnee Civic Arts Commission, who designed the city seal for Shawnee, Kansas, something he was very proud and honored to do.

 

Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ensor; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel T. Ensor; and brother, Thurman Ensor. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah M.  and her husband, John M. Kukula.; granddaughter, Maria A. Dorman and husband, Matthew; and great granddaughter, Isabella Frances Dorman, still in utero, due February 10, 2010 all of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson, Michael B. Kukula, St. Louis, Missouri; sister Josephine Gischel; and niece, Nancy Dold and her husband, Bob, York, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Victoria Carroll, Owings Mills, Maryland; grand- nephew, Bobby Dold, Hampstead, Maryland; grand-niece Tracy Dekker and family, Florida; and many, many friends living and deceased.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

 

Also a visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Burgee-Henss Funeral Home, Baltimore, Maryland; burial in the Lorraine Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.
