Charles F. Reasoner

Charles F. Reasoner, 67, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

 

Charlie was born March 13, 1942 in Appleton City, Missouri. On August 20, 1966, Charlie married Sharon Creten at St. Patrick’s Church in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was a superintendent with the Unified Government in Kansas City, Kansas with 35 years of service.

 

He survived by his wife, Sharon Reasoner of the home; mother, Loreta Harmon; brother, Gerald Ray Reasoner; half sister, Nora Lou Russell all of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Mike Clarrey, Karen D. Creten and Frances and Trent Jones; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010,  at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 94th Street and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010,  at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m.

William “Bill” Joseph Lynch

Bill Lynch, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away January 23, 2010, at his home, with his wife nearby. 

 

Bill was born April 8, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Frank Owen and Ruth Kell Lynch.  Bill served as a 1st Lieutenant in WWII in the US Army Air Forces 385th BG as a co-pilot on a B-17 bomber.  He earned a B.S. in Business from the US Army Air Forcesin 1950.  Bill retired from the Atomic Energy Commission in 1978. 

 

His life accomplishments were colorful and numerous.  Bill is probably most well known for building his own open cockpit biplane in his home garage, which he went on to fly for many years.  Bill had many adventurous flights, including two flights to Alaska.  He even appeared on the Art Linkletter Show.  Bill’s award winning landscaping has been enjoyed by so many over the years.  Bill and Janice traveled all over the United States including Alaska and Canada together. 

 

Bill will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors, flying, and his unwavering love for his family.  Bill truly never knew a stranger, whether you were a neighbor or an acquaintance at a restaurant or store, Bill went out of his way to get to know you.  Bill has been such an inspiration to so many and has touched so many lives.  Everyone who saw just even a glimpse of Bill and Janice together knew their love for one another was out of this world.  Bill and Janice are the textbook definition everlasting love.  The impact he has made on his wife, children and grandchildren cannot be put into words.  He was admired by everyone he met and will be greatly missed.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Frank Owen Jr., John Paul and James and his sisters Mary Louise and Jane.   Survivors include his wife and soul-mate of 60 years, Janice; his daughter, Cheryl; his granddaughters Kimberly and her husband Scott Kenyon and Catherine Coon; his great-grandchildren Mande and her husband David Onwiler, Kellsie, Cassondra, Christen, Tyler, Catie and Christopher; his great-great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Skylar; his brothers Thomas and Robert and his sister Helen and their families. 

 

In lieu of flowers, you may honor Bill’s memory with a donation to the American Diabetes Association.

A visitation celebrating Bill’s life will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.

Billie M. Carter

January 23, 2010

Billie M. Carter, 75, Merriam, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House. 

 

Billie was preceded in death by her husband Courts R. Carter in 2006.  She is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Mark) Hollingsworth, Judy Waechter, Brenda Carter; two sons, Jack Carter, Courts Carter; two siblings Carolyn Masur, Jim Moore; six grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Breneman, Barbara (Bill) Tholen, Katie, Roxy,  Kenzie Waechter, and  Cale Carter; and three great-grandchildren Carter and Clara Breneman, and Fin Tholen.

 

Billie is a 25 year Breast Cancer Survivor and a 3 year 10 months Ovarian Cancer Survivor. The family would like to thank Dr. Julia Chapman and the KU Cancer Center for the gift of life.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice or KU Cancer Center.

Visitation will be 10-11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., at the chapel.  Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Sloan

January 22, 2010

Dorothy M. Sloan, 86, Cape Fair, Missouri, passed away at St. John’s Health Care Center in Springfield, Missouri.

 

Dorothy was born in Lisle, Missouri, June 16, 1923. For 30 years she worked side-by-side with her husband of 45 years, James Sloan, in their business, Sloan Printing, Inc.  For most of those years she was lead printer. Dorothy was a charter member of West Highland Presbyterian Church. During the latter part of her life she lived in the Ozarks enjoying the wildlife and nature’s wonders. She enjoyed travelling, gambling and her family.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Sloan and grandson, Phil Sims.  Her survivors include daughter Sharon Sims, Cape Fair, Missouri; son Robert Darrah, Shawnee, Kansas;  7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Leonard Tribby, Allen Tribby and John Tribby and sister Betty Harris.

 

The family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

 

Memorial Service and Reception

 

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  A reception and fellowship will be held at the home of son, Robert Darrah, following the service.

Gary Leon Hartman

Gary Leon Hartman, 51, of Shawnee, Kansas, died January 21, 2010 in Overland Park, Kansas.  

 

Gary was born June 16, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas, son of Clarence “Red” Hartman and Mary Hartman. Gary was a Master Plumber and operated Hartman Plumbing over 25 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shawnee.

 

Gary was preceded in death by a son, Greg Hartman and his father, Clarence “Red” Hartman. Surviving are his wife, Sallie Hartman; daughter, Sandy Lange; sons, Tony Hartman, Darrell Hartman,  and Adam Hartman; his mother, Mary Hartman; brothers, Robert Hartman and Thomas Hartman; sisters, Diane Smith, Lisa Unterreiner, Lynette Bohn, and Shari Schubert; grandchildren, Joshua, Alexander, and Gavin Lange, Lyssa, Kelsey, and Avery Watland and Kayden Morrison.

Jerry Burns, 52, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his home, Thursday, January 21, 2010. 

 

Jerry is remembered as a deeply devoted husband and father and a dedicated professional always ready to assist friends and family.

 

Jerry leaves his wife, Linda, of 19 years; stepson, Scott (Angie) Schulze and stepdaughter, Sarah (AJ) Eller; 2 grandchildren, Hannah and Brayden Schulze and 1 expectant grandchild, Noah Eller. Jerry was preceded in death by his father Edward and is survived by his mother Betty, sister Michelle and brother Kevin.

Gregory Scott Thach

Gregory S. Thach, 58, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away January 22, 2010, at his home. 

 

He is survived by his two sisters, Delaine Wallingford, Napa California and Deborah Thach, Sylvania, Ohio.

Lonnie Ray Cannon, Sr.

January 20, 2010

Lonnie Ray Cannon, Sr. died on January 20, 2010 at his home in Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 68.

 

Lonnie was born in Emporia, Kansas in 1941, he was the son of Marjorie Robinett Cannon and Charles Willard Cannon.  Lonnie worked all his life as a machinist for RC Can Company and Boise Cascade.  He liked to play hard and live fast.  He was a 50’s man who never lost his passion for Chevrolet and a cold drink.

 

Survivors include his sister Eva Carol Dupuis; 3 sons, Charles Wayne Cannon (Rocky), Lonnie Ray Cannon, Jr., and Kenneth Wade Cannon; 8 grandchildren, Cole Austin Cannon, Kasey Nicole Cannon, McKenzie Rae Cannon, Katrina Gonzales Hoffhines, Henry Ingalls Cannon, Charles Wayne Cannon, Lee Everett Tuter and Lindsey Marie Tuter; 2 great granddaughters Madelyn Jane and Ellyson Grace Hoffhines; nieces Sherry Foxx Jackson and Verna Glover Whalen; nephew Charles Cannon.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Willard Vernon Cannon and Charles Dwayne Cannon.

 

We want to thank Steve Howard for the care and comfort he provided to our dad.

Galen S. O’Keefe

Galen S. O’Keefe, Bud as he was known to all that loved him, passed away January 20, 2010 at his home in Shawnee, Kansas. 

 

Bud was born June 26, 1936 in Blaine, Kansas to Urban and Cecelia O’Keeffe (deceased). Upon graduation from Wheaton High School, he joined the Navy in 1955, serving until 1960.  In 1961 he married Janice Sanderson and eventually they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. Bud joined the Army National Guard in 1975, then transferring to the Air Force Reserves where he retired in 1996, serving all together 26 years.  In 1998 he retired from Wal-Ties and Forms, Bonner Springs, Kansas spending the next 10 years traveling the United States with his wife Jan in their motor home.  Always ready for a party or a project.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; his daughter Karen O’Keefe-Lingenfelter and husband Garrett; daughters, Kathi O’Keefe and Kerry O’Keefe-Owens and husband Dean; 3 grandchildren that he adored, Lilly Lingenfelter, Nicholas and Lauren Owens; 2 brothers and 4 sisters, along with many nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank Phronzie, Teresa, Brother Darrell and the staff at Catholic Community Hospice.

Dorothy J. Blanton

Dorothy J. Blanton, 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away, Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the home.

 

Dorothy was born in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She had been a manager at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

 

Her husband, Richard H. Blanton, died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Donna Davidson, her granddaughter, Shonda Davidson, and her brother, Henry Ross Jr.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Freeman and her husband Dewey, of Ava, Missouri; three sons, Richard Davidson and his wife, Cheri, Kansas City, Kansas, Ronald Davidson and his wife, Michele, Olathe, Kansas and Kevin Davidson and his wife, Amber, Olathe, Kansas; three sisters Mary Nigh, Shirley Castor, & Judy Vodopest;  6 grandchildren, Christopher, Julia, Stephen, Christian, Haley & Alexis Davidson.
