Mary Alice Seward
Mary Alice Seward, 84, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away peacefully late Monday night, December 14, 2009, at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas.
Besides raising her two children, Mary worked in the Sears Catalog Department for many years and in later life stayed active by creating gifts for her friends and family with her multi-faceted craft-making skills using quilting, crocheting and sewing. She was an active participant in the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, with her husband, Carl. Mary volunteered at the Shawnee Community Services and helped out at the Argentine Soup Kitchen through her church along with other community volunteer groups. Mary was a loyal member of the Hillcrest Christian Church as long as she was able.
Mary was one of nine children of Thomas Arthur and Katy Mae (Behringer) Johnson and is survived by her two children, Larry Seward and Kathryn Miller; four grandchildren, Jessica Tan, Dawn and Ian Seward and Michael Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Kallen and Kathryn Miller and Colin Tan. She also leaves one sister, Dorothy Klamm of Basehor, Kansas and one sister-in-law, Alice Johnson of Lenexa, Kansas. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shepherd’s Center of KC Central, 5200 Oak Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64112 or the Hillcrest Christian Church, 11411 Quivira Road, Overland Park, Kansas 66210.
Visitation and Funeral Service
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the chapel.
