Richard Waters

Richard E. Waters, 59, Merriam, KS passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.  

Richard was born June 21, 1950 in Quincy, IL. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Richard was retired from AT&T and IBM.  He was an avid wood worker and NASCAR fan. He is survived by his wife, Teri (Dawson) Waters; daughters, Sara Goodman, Lenexa, KS and Erin Waters, Cincinnati, OH; sons and their spouses, Ross Waters and Liz, Overland Park, KS and Kyle Waters and Lea Ann, Merriam, KS; parents, Forrest E. and Alice (Black) Waters, Quincy, IL; three sisters, Cathy Austin, CA; Joann Waters, TX and Susan Brown, WA; two brothers, Jeff Waters and Bill Waters, both of IL; and mother-in-law, Velma Dawson, Merriam, KS.

Memorial visitation

Memorial visitation  will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.

Jeanette Y. Gabauer

October 13, 2009

Jeanette Y. Gabauer, 45, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away October 13, 2009.

 

Jeanette was born August 13, 1964 in Merriam, Kansas to Doyle and Patricia Holl Nicholas.  She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1982.  Jeanette worked for many years selling insurance in the Kansas City area, and recently began a career as a Para educator in the DeSoto School District.  Jeanette won a courageous battle with breast cancer in 2009.  She loved to travel and always enjoyed her family and many friends along with her beloved dog, Scooby.

 

She was preceded in death by her father Doyle Nicholas.  Jeanette is survived by her daughter Sabrina (Beanie) Doty; by her mother Patricia Nicholas; sister Cheri Crosson;  three nieces: Amanda and husband Chris, Catie, and Sophia; and one nephew Nick.

 

Visitation and Memorial Service

 

Visitation will be held Saturday October 17, 2009 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Memorial Service will immediatly follow at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.

Rosemary Baker Goshorn

October 12, 2009

Rosemary Baker Goshorn, a life-long Kansas City area resident, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at her Lenexa home.  

 

She was born January 29, 1932, in Overland Park.  She spent 23 years working for Avon’s distribution centers, here and for five years in Atlanta.  Her early years were spent at Waddell & Reed.  Rosemary was noted for her sparkling personality, making any social situation come alive with her presence.  She could light up a room with her entrance.  She loved travel and made trips to Barcelona and 12 European countries; Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Mexico City, Cancun, Lake Chapala, and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and the Caribbean Islands of Jamaica and Aruba.  Many of her trips were made with her daughter Mindy Patterson.  Friends from the Atlanta area to this day are arranging annual women-only trips to exotic ports in the Caribbean region.  

 

Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family, and relaxing by the pool, working on her tan.  She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed growing flowers in her garden.  Rosemary loved animals, and adopted all of her pets from Helping Hands animal shelter including, Oliver and Killer, her two dogs and Lilly, the cat.  With her husband Bill Goshorn, she attended many hydropower meetings with preference customers in the local six–state region.  Her experiences included visiting the inner workings of the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant and the Truman Dam powerhouse near Warsaw, Missouri. 

 

Rosemary is preceded in death by one son Tim Baker.  She is survivied by her husband, Bill; a daughter, Mindy Patterson and husband Tim, Olathe, Kansas; two sons Mark Baker, Kansas City, Missouri and Greg Baker and wife Nancy, and grandson Jacob, all of Olathe, Kansas; two brothers, James Stillwell and wife Jean, Parkville, Missouri  and Cliff Stillwell, Raytown, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation and Memorial Services

 

Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Shawnee.

Deanna Sue (Bigelow) Carlson

Deanna Sue (Bigelow) Carlson, 61, Overland Park, Kansas,  passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at her home.  

 

Sue was born November 6, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Wallis Howard and Myra Joyce (Lewis) Bigelow. She was a 1966 graduate of Westport High School. On September 2, 1967, Sue married Cameron Duane Carlson in Kansas City, Missouri.  They were lifelong area residents.

 

Survivors include her husband, Cameron D. Carlson; daughter, Shanna L. Kinnison, her husband, Jason, Richmond, Missouri; son, Jeffrey Carlson, Prairie Village, Kansas; sister, Gloria J. Triplett, her husband, Virgil, Shawnee, Kansas; and two grandchildren, whom Sue devoted most of her time to, Colton James Carlson, Lawrence, Kansas and Grayson Guy Kinnison, Richmond, Missouri.

Evelyn H. Bainbridge

October 10, 2009

Evelyn Holland Bainbridge, 84, of Lakeview Village, Lenexa Kansas, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday October 8, 2009.   Evelyn passed away peacefully while with her husband and children after a severe stroke two days earlier.

 

Evelyn was a graduate of Northfield High School and received her BA in Art with honors from St. Olaf College of Northfield, Minnesota.  Following college she was hired as stewardess with TWA in 1947 where she met her husband (the captain of her first flight) of 61 years, William (Bill) Bainbridge Jr.  Bill and Evelyn spent 50 years at Lake Quivira, Kansas where they raised their 4 children.

 

 Her life was centered on her family, sharing her faith in Jesus Christ, her artistic talent, and in her last 25+ years a successful business venture that continues to operate today. After raising the 4 children, Bills retirement from TWA, and 5 years living overseas in Pakistan and Uruguay with Bill in his second flying career, Evelyn started a home based business in AIM nutritional products.  While with AIM, she achieved the Chairman’s Club, the highest level possible with AIM.  

 

She is survived by her husband, her four children, Bill Bainbridge III of Newton, Kansas; Marsha Bainbridge Carpenter M.D. of Dallas, Texas; Jean Bainbridge D.D.S. of Dallas, Texas; Mark Bainbridge of Blue Springs; Missouri and 10 grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Genevieve Roark of Ft. Worth, TX and many nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ in honor of Evelyn Bainbridge. or to the charity of your choice.

 

Visitation and Funeral Service

 

Evelyn’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 17, 2009,  at 10:00 a.m. at Cross Points Church, 6824 Lackman Road, Shawnee, Kansas 66217.   Visitation will be on Friday October 16, 2009  from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.

 

Rachelle Ann Ficken

October 9, 2009

Rachelle Ann Ficken, 43, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

 

Rachelle was preceded in death by her grandfather Forest Beckham. Survivors include one son Dalton Ficken; her mother and step-father Sandie (Lonnie) White; and father Roy Roper;  grandmother Betty Becham; siblings Shaunna Whitehead, Teresa Wykert, and Shannon White; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Dalton was always called “her angel” by Rachelle – now she is his.

Helen M. White

Helen M. White, 91, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away October 2, 2009 at Villa St. Joseph.

 

Helen was born March 7, 1918 in rural Dade County, Missouri, the second child of Jackson and Alma (Moore) Morris.  Her father passed away early in life, after which her mother married Hank Hood and moved to Miller, Missouri.  Helen graduated from Miller High School in 1934 and then attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield, Missouri.  She was employed by the Federal Government in Washington D.C. in 1936 and married  Joseph A. White in 1937.  She and Joseph moved back to Kansas City in 1946; here they raised their family and she worked for the Federal Aviation Agency for 30 years.

 

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. White in 1996 and by a son Thomas White in 2005.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Grim of Omaha, Nebraska and Roxanna Hibbs of Austin, Texas; her sons Donald J. White of Lenexa, Kansas and Stephen P. White of Springfield, Illinois; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delbert D. Nicholas

Delbert D. Nicholas, 66, of Shawnee, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

 

Delbert was born March 19, 1943 to the late Wayne and Bessie Nicholas in South Park, Kansas.  Delbert attended Shawnee Mission North High  School.  After high school he went to Johnson County Community College while with the Shawnee Police Department.  He joined the Shawnee Police Department on January 20, 1973 and served the Shawnee community for 25 years, retiring June 12, 1998.   Delbert earned the rank of Detective Sergeant and was a member of the Kansas City Metro Squad, Kansas Peace Officers Association and the Kansas Intelligence Association.   

 

Before joining the police department Delbert worked for Vista Manufacturing and TWA as a machinist.  He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed making furniture and toys for his grandchildren and family.  Delbert was active with the Kansas Fraternal Order of Police as well as Meals on Wheels.  He also completed a 150 mile bike ride, the MS 150 to benefit Multiple Sclerosis research, and was also a member of The Plain ’ol A’s, a Model A Club. 

 

Delbert was married to Mary Lee VanLerberg on July 27, 1961.  They were married 48 years, she survives of the home.  Delbert is also survived by a son Duane E. Nicholas, DeSoto, Kansas; a daughter, Cindy L. Nicholas, Olathe, Kansas; three granddaughters, Holly Hayes and husband Travis, Shawnee, Kansas, Jessica Martin and husband Tom, Overland Park, Kansas, and Kimberly Nicholas, DeSoto, Kansas; one grandson Adam MacPherson and fiancé Amanda, Olathe, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ryan Lynn Hayes, both of Shawnee, Kansas; one brother, Ronnie Nicholas and wife Carrie, Waverly, Kansas; a sister, Sharon Nicholas, Shawnee, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.   Delbert is preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle and Richard Nicholas. 

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels, 203 S. Union St., Alexandria, Virginia 22314; or Fraternal Order of Police, P.O. Box 3424, Kansas City, Kansas 66103.

Visitation will be 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Wednesday October 7, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial with Police Honors will follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, Kansas.

Alfred J. Lane

October 3, 2009

Al Lane, 77, Mission Hills, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Al was born on July 7, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio to Daniel and Mary Ann (Nardone) Lane.  He graduated from Ohio State University with a BS degree in 1955. Following graduation, Al enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he received his pilot training. He was a pilot for TWA for 25 years, domestic and international.  Al retired from TWA in 1988.  He was  both a city councilman and mayor of Mission Hills from 1981-89.  He began his career as a Kansas State Representative of the 25th District in 1989, retiring in 2003.

 

Al is survived by his wife, Peggy (Wright) Lane; three daughters, Sheryl Turner and her husband, Rod, Mission Hills, Kansas, Leslie Bryant, Mission, Kansas, and Linda Coskun and her husband, Battal, Moorpark, California; son, Al Lane, Jr. and his wife, Kim, Louisburg, Kansas; brother, Daniel F. Lane, Jr., and his wife, Alice, Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael and Megan Turner, Joshua, Ellis and Rachel Bryant and Kaitlyn Coskun;  and two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Coskun.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri  64113; St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation, 4225 Baltimore Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 or Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri 64145 (although Al did not require their services).

Friends may call from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 9-10:00 am.   A reception will be held at the church following the service from 12-2:00 pm. Family graveside services will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.

 

A memorial service will be held in Columbus, Ohio at a later date.
