Freda Marie Jensen Brueck

Freda Marie Jensen Brueck, 97, Overland Park, Kansas, departed this life August 28, 2009.
Mrs. Brueck lived in this area for most of her life. She was a dental x-ray technician at the VA Hospital in Kansas City for 20 years.
Mrs. Brueck was a member of Hillcrest Covenant Church, Trinity Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary, NARFE, Kansas City VA Club, and LaSertoma.
Her husband, William Brueck, preceded her in death in 1969. Survivors include naphews, George Jense, Arthur F. Jense, and Robert W. Jensen; niece, Janice Reaster; step-granddaughters, Lisa LaMassey and Cynthia Mangan; step-grandsons, Robbie Dalton and Bill Brueck.

Ralph Norman Nelson, 88, Overland Park, Kan., passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009, at home. Ralph was born April 26, 1921, in Blumenhof, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Jacob Andreas Nelson and Agnes Constance (Austring) Nelson. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Miriam P. Nelson, and Margaret E. Nelson; one son, Wayne Norman Nelson; and four siblings, Oscar, Ruby Olivia, Jim Nelson, and Inez Tweed. Ralph is survived by two children, Brenda Nelson, Overland Park, and Scott ( Diana) Nelson, Olathe; six sisters, Mildred Lindquist, Doris Nelson, M.D., Grace Ingulsrud, Joyce Christenson, Ruby (Ray) Timms, Rose Aline (Vern) Begalke; and three grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Buis, Paul Andreas Nelson, Jason Andreas Nelson; three great grandchildren, “adopted” grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ralph served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter pilot in WWII and he also received a U.S. Patent on a vaccine for animal health during his career as a Microbiologist. Edward B. Seward

Edward B. Seward age 80 of Merriam, Kansas passed away August 27, 2009.
Edward was born Oct.ober10, 1928 in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas to Joseph and Dorothy Wirth Seward. He was raised in Richfield, Idaho. Edward served in the US Army in Okinawa and Japan during WWII. For over 20 years Edward owned and operated Comet TV in Merriam, KSansas, selling and repairing televisions. He was a proud member of the Moose Lodge in Muncie, Kansas and The American Legion Post #188. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Donald and Jerry Seward.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Shirley Seward, by his sons, Barney Seward of Merriam, Kansas and Charles Seward of Joplin, Missouri. He is also survived by a sister Elsie Wilmonth of Twin Falls, Idaho and by a brother, Dale Seward of Cauldwell, Idaho and three grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 pm at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday also at the funeral home followed by burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Dale Schowengerdt

Dale Schowengerdt, 86, of Mission, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Dale was born in 1923 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was a devoted and loving father of 7 and his family meant everything to him. Dale served in the Army Air Force, stationed in Guam during WWII and after worked as a union electrician until retirement. He loved to read, cook, play tennis, and spend summer weekends at Council Grove Lake pulling kids and grandkids around the lake in his ski boat. He was an excellent writer and later in life took up woodcarving, making profiles of his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Dale was a long-time member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. His wife LoRee, son Mark, grandson Clay, and granddaughter Erin precede him in death. He is survived by 6 children: Kathie Hannagan; Steve Schowengerdt; Susie Atkins; Craig Schowengerdt; Mary Kris Nolte; and Jana Hothan. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren (and counting).
The family is thankful for prayers and requests that any memorials be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Visitation is Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 9:30 at St. Pius X Church in Mission, with a Funeral Mass following at 11:00. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Ezekiel John Blake died August 24, 2009, at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Born August 14th, 2009. Baby “Zeke” spent a week at home with his father and mother, Thomas and Leah Blake, and his brother Wyatt, 3 and sister Cassidy, 2.
He is survived by his grandparents, Michael and DeAnn Blake and Rodney and Beverly Franz; his uncle and aunts, Jason and Shannon Blake, Paul and Lauren Blake, Eric and Susan Simon, Joseph Franz, James and Sarah Sorell, and Rachel Franz, and eight cousins.

Beth Marie (Wilson) Hobbs, 60, Shawnee, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 at her home.
Beth was born October 28, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas to Charles and Clena (Jones) Wilson. On June 2, 1971, Beth married Paul A. Hobbs in Keats, Kansas. She was a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School and attended Kansas State University and the Kansas City Art Institute.
Beth is survived by her husband, Paul Hobbs; two sons, Brian Scott Hobbs and his wife Kayo, Springfield, Virginia and Robert Bruce Hobbs, Shawnee, Kansas; mother, Clena Wilson, Shawnee, Kansas; brother, John Wilson and his wife, Pat, Pocatello, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Scott and Will Hobbs, Springfield, Virginia.

William C. Mechelke, 90, Lenexa, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center, Shawnee, Kansas.
William was born June 12, 1919 in Stillwater, Minnesota to William F. and Hazel (Tranter) Mechelke. He married Margaret P. Schroeder, August 8, 1942 in Englewood, California.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on July 14, 1992. Survivors include his son, William P. Mechelke, Lenexa, Kansas; daughter, Linda Ann Mobley, Shawnee, Kansas; six grandchildren, Jessica, David, Steve, Josh and Paul Mobley and Martha Weidner; and two great granddaughters, Carina and Serenity Weidner.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Hope Lutheran Church Organ Fund.

Elizabeth J. Litfin, 72, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Elizabeth was employed by Tidewater Oil then a succession of Oil Companies ultimately retiring from Chevron in 1999. She was a member of AARP, Friends of Powell Gardens, League of Women Voters, and a longtime avid supporter of the Arts in Kansas City, Houston, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother Walter Litfin, Forrest Hills, New York; longtime companion Dennis Deere, Lenexa, Kansas; and four cousins Alex Berenyi, Kansas City, Missouri, Mariann Bruzzi, Bayonet Point Florida, Claire Root, Indianapolis , Indiana, and Barbara Berenyi, Stony Brook, New York.
