Arnold Reed Summers

Arnold Reed Summers, age 82, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away at home July 28, 2009 surrounded by family and friends.

 

Arnie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita (Fanning) Summers and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold R and Thelma (Morey) Summers and by his sister Della Marie (Summers) Watkins.

 

Arnie served in the US Navy during WWII.  He owned and operated Summers & Son Welding Shop in Kansas City, Missouri for over 40 years.

 

He enjoyed playing golf, car racing, boating, and traveling in his motorhome.  Arnie will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Fr. Michael Hawken, to Andrea Clark, and Sister Fabiola for their loving care.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to:  St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas, Sister Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th Street, Kansas City, Kansas  66102, or Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.

 

Visitation and Funeral Mass

 

A visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8pm with the rosary at 6pm at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Funeral Mass will be held Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee at 10am followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
