When our oldest daughter, now Dr. Alisha Sanchez, Pediatrician, was a Senior, she missed manatory graduation practice. Alarmed, her Counselor Mrs. Holt, went to my husband’s math classroom to express concern. He was busy teaching, so she and another Counselor went to our home. The front door was unlocked. Alisha had been a “straight as an arrow” student so Zela was truly alarmed. Zela found Alisha’s bedroom in the basement and Alisha woke to her high school counselor standing by her bed! Later in the day, she sat beside Alisha as she met with the Principal, Dr. Charles Nichols, to petition him to allow her to attend her h.s. graduation ceremonies.
I don’t think her Counselees ever doubted that she was “in their camp”! (I’m sitting here with tears running down my face as I write this.) She was both our child’s Counselor and a collegue to us. Zela was a legend at South. Rosemary
