Charles G. Verstraete

Charles G. Verstraete, 84, of North Port, Florida died Monday May 18, 2009 at Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte, Florida. Mr. Verstraete was born September 5, 1924 in Shawnee, Kansas to Julius K. and Louise (Van De Berghe) Verstraete.

 

He retired after 34 years from Southwestern Bell in 1982. He moved to North Port in 1991 coming from Shawnee, Kansas.

 

Mr. Verstraete was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church, a former member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers and the C.W. A., member of the V.F.W. and a member of Sable Trace Golf and Country Club. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in WWII .

 

Mr. Verstraete was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine (Hartman) Verstraete on March 29, 1983 and two sisters, Mary Louise Beam and Sylvia Lichtenauer.

 

He is survived by his loving companion, Eleanor Smith of North Port, FL; daughter, Cheryl (Ron) Ratliff, Leawood, KS; son, Gerald (Kristy) Verstraete, Overland Park, KS;  brothers, Julius, Shawnee, KS, Clarence, Monett, MO, Robert  and Jim both of both of Lenexa, KS; and four grandchildren, Lindsey Verstraete, Jared Verstraete, Ashley Ratliff and Justin Verstraete.

 

Memorial Visitation and Rosary Recitation

 

A memorial visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A Rosary Recitation will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
