Dalton Eli Hawkins
Dalton Eli Hawkins, 18, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on April 24th, 2009 in Lawrence, Kansas. Dalton was born on August 13th, 1990, in Shawnee, Kansas, the beloved son of Shawn and Rhonda Hawkins.
A 2008 Graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest, Dalton was currently enrolled as an honors student at the University of Kansas, majoring in pre-pharmacy. He was recently named to the dean’s list and was a member of the Mount Oread Scholars. Dalton lived in Ellsworth residence hall and was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.
Dalton brought energy with him just by entering a room. He’ll be remembered as the one with the biggest grin, the one always up for having fun. He was soft-spoken and funny, collecting friends wherever he went. He was a competitive bowler, enjoyed working outdoors, grew up playing sports and video games, dirt biking, and was an avid cyclist with his father, Shawn. He was a member of Crossroads Church in Shawnee. His sister Makenzie summed Dalton up as “a true role model.”
Dalton is survived by his parents, Shawn and Rhonda Hawkins of Shawnee; grandparents Don and Arlene Teel of Shawnee, Roy and Karen Snook of Hoker, Oklahoma, and Kathleen Hawkins of Johnston, Iowa. He is survived by his sister Makenzie of the home, sister Misty Burnett of Panama City, Florida, niece Ashley and nephew Aaron of Panama City. In addition he will be missed by a large extended family and a vast number of friends from his hometown and college communities. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Louis Vincent Hawkins. A smiling soul, both unforgettable and irreplaceable.
A Memorial Fund has been established and the family request donations to Commerce Bank.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with your family.
Shawn & Rhonda: Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family both now and in the difficult days ahead. It’s so hard to find the words to say that might help you find comfort because that doesn’t even seem possible right now. We pray that God’s love and strength surrounds you and help you find peace you need to see you through.
Love,
Steve & Karla Hauser and family
Dear Shawn, Rhonda and Makenzie,
Words simply can’t express the sorrow we feel for Dalton and for your entire family. As parents, we can only imagine what you must be going through, and even then, I know it doesn’t even come close to the reality of it. Dalton was such a wonderful young man, and we truly enjoyed watching him and Adam grow up at Park Lanes. It was so special to see Dalton again when the boys began bowling on their high school teams, seeing how they had both grown into such fine young men. I always enjoyed those Saturday mornings spent hanging out with you and cheering the kids on. Dalton was always such a nice, respectful person, and I know he’ll be missed by so many. I know he’ll always be your baby boy, and I’ll continue to pray for God to grant you the strength and courage you need to get through this. Please let me know if there’s anything at all we can do for you. “May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV
Your friends,
Denise, Ron and Adam Lewis
To The hawkins Family,
With heavy hearts and deepest sympathy we morn the loss of your son Dalton. Dylon has been away in Georgia for Army training and yesterday was sent out for a week with his class without communication. He wants your family and the rest of Daltons friends to know that he would be here if he could to show his respect and love and admiration to him along side his many friends. It pains him to be away but will certainly hold a private commemorance in his heart until he comes home.
We wish you all the strength the Lord has to heal you today and the days ahead.
Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Dear Dalton’s family,
There is nothing harder to bear than the loss of a child. I truly understand your pain and, when you’re ready, welcome a phone call.
I’m sure Jason is being himself and greeting Dalton and seeing if he wants to go do something fun. I think they would have had a good time together.
I’m so sorry for your loss and, truely in every sense of the words, feel your pain.
May God touch you with his peace and He understands your anger. It’s just not right to lose someone so young. The Columbine tragedy was recognized this year and it was more touching than ever before. At least we saw our son’s graduate from high school. This is just a terribly crewl world and we need to make a difference with the time we have left.
May the peace of God’s love be with you. We will see our boys again!
-Jay, Jason’s dad
