Constance Throckmorton Culpepper, 89 of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Constance was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter, Sheri (John) Kalich, Crystal Lake, Illinois; a son, Robert (Kathy) Throckmorton, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House.
Visitation and Funeral Services
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday at the church.
John Richard Gabler

John Richard Gabler, 78, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at his home.
He was born October 2, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frederick and Dora (Knake) Gabler. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1949. Following graduation, John was drafted by the New York Yankees. He retired from baseball and moved back to Kansas to work with his father and brother at Gabler’s Nursery. John was a member of Overland Park Lutheran Church, Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame in Wichita and the Nurseryman Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frederick Gabler, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Knowlton) Gabler; children and their spouses, Cynthia and Chip Anthony, Karen and Jeff Bowden all of Overland Park, Kansas, Johnna and Mitch Simmons, Overbrook, Kansas, Fritz and Terri Gabler, Stilwell, Kansas and Patti and Bill Nigro, Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law, Charlotte Gabler, Overland Park, Kansas; and 10 grandchildren, Jake, Ryan, Tyler, Connor, Kelsey, Samantha, Fritz Jr., Emily, Josie and Courtney.

Esther Reed Ashley

Esther R. Ashley 96, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed over February 2, 2009. Esther was born July 23, 1912 to Charles and Alma Kallenback in Kansas City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years Ernest J. Ashley, her daughter Shirley J. Landis, granddaughter Carole Ann Cunningham and sister Charlotte Hagstrom.
Her circle of life includes daughters; Sue (Gar) Cantrell and Nancy (John) Alberg. Her beloved grandchildren; Cathy Misemer, David Cunningham, Daniel Cunningham, Laura Landis, Fred Landis, Carrie Storm, Timothy Evans, Susan Canaan, and Julie Spatz. 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
As a 1929 graduate of Wyandotte High School, planning and attending class reunions were special events. She was a life long member of Central Christian Church, where she taught the Cradle Roll Sunday School Class for 48 years. Many generations will remember her whenever they hear Jesus Loves Me and Away in the Manger. She served as deaconess emeritus, CYF sponsor, and church board member. With her beautiful soprano voice, she was called upon to perform at many events.
Esther was an accomplished seamstress. In 1951, she went to work for Macy’s custom drapery divison, which prompted her to co-found and own the Ashley Drapery Shop in 1954. As a successful businesswoman, she worked with the leading interior designers in the Kansas City area until her retirement. Esther and Ernie retired to Alamo, Texas where the enjoyed their new home, friends, and their beautiful “Rio Grande Valley”. They had the time of their lives.
Widowed in 1984. She returned to Overland Park in 1990 to reside at Sante Fe Towers until health required a move to Overland Park Manor. Esther was a favorite of residents and staff, always enjoying the activities and a good joke. She had the ability to make friends wherever she went. Her family will always be grateful for the love and care she received for over the past ten years from her many caregivers. She was affectionately known as Queen Esther. She taught us all what it meant to truly love, and we will carry her life mark forever.

She was cremated, and private family services will be held at a later date.
Rosemary D. Dragastin

Rosemary D. Dragastin, 85, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Brookdale Senior Living, Wichita, Kansas.
Rosemary was born December 23, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas to William and Mary (Vogrin) Deitchman. On September 1, 1951, Rosemary married Fred Dragastin at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas. Rosemary and Fred moved to Lenexa, Kansas in 1979 and became members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was employed with the US Magistrate in Kansas City, Kansas until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on March 16, 1992. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Joan and Gary Adelhardt, Nashville, Kansas, Janet and Fred Seiler, Inman, Kansas, Dr. Tom and Denise Dragastin, Washington, Kansas, Mark and Beverly Dragastin, Virginia, Nebraska and Neal Dragastin, London, Ohio; sister, Jean Kiddoo, Edina Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Justin, Brooke, Nichole, Jodi, Kaycee, Sarah, Cody and Lauren; and one great-grandson, Max.

Asher Gray Arcand, 9, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Asher was born November 5, 1999, in Merriam, Kansas, to Alan and Tonya (Gray) Arcand. He was in the third grade at Horizon Elementary School. Asher enjoyed playing drums and was currently taking lessons.
He is survived by his parents, Alan and Tonya Arcand; brother, Austin Arcand; grandparents, Carol and Charles Gray and Bernadette (Arcand-Smith) and Bob Smith all of Shawnee, Kansas; aunts and uncles, Steve Gray, Charl and Danly Rold, and Elizabeth and Jeff Williams; cousins, Anna Rold, Lauren Williams, Shawn and Steven Gray.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, February 5 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Cremation will follow the services.

Robert August Femec, 83, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away February 1, 2009.
Robert is survived by a daughter, Jane Femec and husband Stephen Brown, Overland Park, Kansas; a son, Doug Femec and wife Julie, Victor, New York; four sisters, Anne Gerrick, Lena Pavsek, both of Cleveland, Ohio; Edie Coyne, Bradenton, Florida; and Val Keenan, Bakersfield, California. Five grandchildren also survive him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.

Luetta V. Ehmcke (Roberts) age 81, went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 3, 2009 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, Kansas.
Luetta was born on January 12, 1928, to John and Ella Voss in Hoskins, Nebraska. She graduated in 1946 from Valley High School. Luetta married Norman D. Ehmcke on January 18, 1947, and they have lived in Overland Park, Kansas for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by Ella and Johnny Roberts and a brother Leonard Voss. She leaves her husband of 62 years, one brother Kenneth (Darlene) Voss of Elkhorn, Nebraska, a sister-in-law JoAnn Voss of Omaha, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves three daughters: Sherry (Dale) robbers of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Cheryl (Bob) Skinner of Kansas City, Missouri; and Cindy Kelly of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren: Carrie (Cory) Weeda of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Michelle (Tim) Urbina of San Antonio, Texas; Laurie (Michael) Jenkins of Grain Valley, Missouri; and Bryan and Melissa Kelly of Olathe, Kansas; and six great-grandchildren: Brianne and Katelyn Weeda, Mallory and Trenton Urbina and Logan and Lilly Jenkins.
Luetta retired from Montgomery Ward in 1994 with 26 years of service. She loved spending time with her family, making crafts, and quilts, cooking, and going to the Lenexa Senior Center for fellowship. Luetta suffered 3 years with MRSA but maintained a great spirit and willingness to live. She fought liver cancer since August 2008. We are grateful for the months that we were able to spend with her and the staff who made her life easier.
Donations in her name may be made to the Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice.

Visitation will be held 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009 at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A service will follow at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Reichmuth Funeral Home, 222 S. Mayne Street, Valley, Nebraska. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Leshara, Nebraska 68064.

Carol R. Kutz, 70, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away February 3, 2009.
Carol was born December 23, 1938 in Ravena, Ohio, to Daniel and Beryl (Crooks) Younkman. She grew up in Ravenna and attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Kent State. She moved to the Kansas City area in 1968 where she worked for the Overland Park State Bank (UMB).
Carol was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son Paul Kutz and his wife Heather of Overland Park, by her daughter Kristen Etzelmiller of Lincoln, Nebraska. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Erika & Evan Etzelmiller and Caleb & Adam Kutz. Carol is also survived by her brother David Younkman and his wife Jane of West Liberty, Ohio, and by her sister Anita Ryan and her husband Bill of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
Carol, a loving mother, grandmother and sister will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Services will be held Friday, February 6th at the Emmanuel Baptist Church 10100 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, with a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM followed by the service at 2:00 and burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Sarah J. Walenta, 62, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at her home.
Sarah was born December 21, 1946 in Quapaw, Oklahoma. She was a teacher in the Kansas City, Kansas Unified School District 500 for over twenty years. Sarah was a member of the Legacy Christian Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Danny Walenta, of the home; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth and husband SSGT Andrew Evans, Oceanside, California, two grandchildren, George and Danielle, and a sister in-law, Danna Parsloe, Prairie Village, Kansas. A sister, Mary Black preceded her in death.

Dr. Don C Petersen, 85, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Indian Creek Nursing Center.
Dr. Petersen is survived by three daughters. Charmaigne Eaton, Shawnee, Kansas, Kathleen Privratsky, Lincoln, North Dakoga, and Tanya (David) Bredow, Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Phalen Batol, Samantha Patton, Kimberly Patton, Nick Privratsky, Jacob Bredow, Emily Bredow, and Julia Eaton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital or the Alzheimer Association.
