I am sad to know that my Grandma Fern has passed away… But I know she is in a wonderful place. I will miss her tidbits of wisdom and her interesting stories. She was elegant and eloquent. Perhaps the quality that we will all remember most is her fierce independence. Fern was a woman who did things her way, right down to the “honey-vinegar cocktail” she used to drink at night to keep herself well. I send my most heartfelt condolences to the rest of her family and although I cannot be there to stand at her gravesite, I will be there in spirit. God Bless.
Grandma,
Our eyes are filled with tears. We want to talk with you, walk with you, and hold your hand. Our selfish desire is to keep you here with us. We morn the loss of your body, but, today we celebrate your soul. For we know you are in a better place, surrounded by the loved ones that went before you and cherishing the memories that had become so difficult to retrieve. We will cry tears of joy for we know that your spirit is always with us and if we want to talk with you, walk with you, or hold your hand… we can. So while we will miss you here on earth, we celebrate your presence in heaven! We love you!
Bryan, Juli, Garrett, and Kaelan
There is so little one can say or do, but it may help somehow to know that loving thoughts and prayers are there with you.
We are sorry we missed Fern’s services yesterday. She was a lovely lady.
How did we know your Mother…we own the apartment building to the South of her home on Folger Street. It was always a pleasure visiting with her as she did her yard work, and Tom and I were busy cleaning around the building. I wish we had gotten to know each other better.
Our Deepest Sympathy!
Tom and Carole Carter-Wall
Thoughts about a dear lady,
Our family knew Fern as our we bought her old stone house and 5 acres just to the east fo the Monticello Cemetary in 1979. Our understanding was that Fern had taken the original stone house and added two large two story extensions to form a gracious country style manor house. Another lady subsequently remodeled the house and vaulted all upstairs ceilings before we got to purchase the property.
We loved the house and our girls were able to keep their horses on the five acres and ride in the adjoining 200 acres. It was our dream house and we were so happy there!
We got to meet Fern and visit with her and Larry in the house. When Larry passed away and and we attended his funeral, we could see our home as we stood at his grave. I can imagine your family standing tin the same spot for Fern. Our hearts go out to you.
Paul, my former husband, passed away on January 3. How strange that these two have been taken away from us so close together.
I hope they are in heaven and remembering the wonderful joy of the house and land that connected our lives.
All our best. Terry and the girls
Dear Stone Family- I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know her well, as I met her long ago as a child, but I remember her being a lovely lady. I grew up in the house she owned at one time on Monticello, and my childhood is filled with wonderful memories of my family in that house. Strangely, my father (who knew her better than I ) passed away at age 84 the next day in Oregon….
My heart goes out to you. My deepest sympathy-
Jennifer Miller-Davis MD
Dear Family of Fern Stone,
It is April and I am just finding out that Mrs. Stone has passed away. I came to know her because she has property adjoining mine. Despite our difference in age, we had a great many things in common. We both love our land, love old stone houses (and new stone houses made to look old), history. When I told her I was trying to save the old stone house (site of Kenneth Smith golf club) at 71st and Pflumm, she told me about her dear friend who had lived there as a child. Her friend gave me pictures of herself in front of that home at age 7 – this helped me show the City that the house was at least as old as 1922 and was not built in 1950s as tax records suggested. I have always cherished that serendipity!
I will very much miss her friendship.
Sincerely, Cindi Johnson
