Oh Kathy…………This hurts my heart. Dave was a lovely, lovely man. From the first time I met him in high school I knew he was very special. When you two got together, on my couch, after our high school reunion I couldn’t be happier! You deserved a very good man and he finally found you. Then as I saw the two of you together with Brandt and what a special family you all were, it was lovely indeed to see. Dave was so kind and gentle and happy when I saw him with you Two, with a small smile looking at you and a protective arm around Brandt. I’m sure he will always be smiling at you and protecting Brandt . He will be missed.

    Kathy,
My heart goes out to you and your son. I loved reading Dave’s profile on the SMNW website…he seemed so happy and content since finding you. You both deserved to be so happy. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
    Love,
    Susan

Kathy and Brandt—–Mark, Morgan, and I have discussed how much we will miss Dave and what a great neighbor he was to all three of us. I think that goes a long way towards saying what an incredible friend and neighbor he was…..that he could befriend all three of us. Not many adults that really strike up friendships with teenage boys!

How I enjoyed seeing Dave out in the yard. Never too busy to talk, and enjoy the weather. I also think back to all the quiet nice things Dave did for neighbors. I remember last winter when he he convinced Brandt , Morgan and I to help him shovel off the drive of another neighbor with health problems, Brandt and I got tired quick but Dave and Morgan rallied through and shoveled off the drive and sidewalk.

Please know that all 3 of us are concerned about you two, and have made a family pledge to be there for you. Anything you need, just ask…no matter how big or how small the request.

Vanessa , Mark and Morgan Metzger—Dave is gone but will not be forgotten in the neighborhood….he made quite and impression.

Words cannot even express the sadness with passing of Dave. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Brandt at this time.

No person is ever truly alone.
    Those who live no more,
    Whom we loved,
    Echo still within our thoughts,
    Our words, our hearts.
    And what they did
    And who they were
Becomes a part of all that we are,
    Forever.

    Kathy

As you will I will also miss Dave very much. He was my life long best friend, my teammate, my college roommate, my best man at my wedding and the brother that I never had. We shared over half our lives together, but because of work, family and dealing with life over time I hadn’t kept in touch. I am so glad he and I shared our early years together and will never forget the memories our relationship generated.

Dave was a kind soul and a gentle man of few words who would go out of his way to help others. Dave is now gone, but he will never be forgotten. I love you brother and will always miss you.

Kathy, although I didn’t know Dave- I know you. And he obviously was a very special person to have captured your attention. I am thinking of you daily and have been offering up prayers on you and Brandt’s behalf. I pray that God will wrap his arms around you and show you during these very difficult days His unsurmountable grace and love.

Kathy, There is so little we can do to help you bear your sorrow. The loss of Dave, so young, so sudden, takes all of our breath away. I hope you will find comfort in your memories, in the undying love you had for one another, and in the family and friends who rally around you now. Our heartfelt thoughts and sympathy are with you. 14. Kim Farnham on January 23rd, 2009 1:37 pm

    Kathy and Brandt,

I want to express my sincere condolences on the loss of Dave. I have only known him a very short year but was so happy to have known him. I remember a very stormy morning and I pulled into work without an umbrella. I was thinking great I am going to be soaked. I hear a knock at the window of my car and there was Dave. He was offering to let me share his umbrella my hero for the day! It was hard to hear that he was gone and the world has lost a very kind and gentle soul. My prayers are with the two of you.

    Kim Farnham

  15. Rob Morris on January 23rd, 2009 1:53 pm

I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was good and decent person. May God bless his soul and his family as well.

  16. Karen Aitken on January 23rd, 2009 2:28 pm

    Kathy & Brandt,
I have worked with Dave the past nine years here at B.F. Ascher. He and I were hired about the same time to bring in some fresh ideas and familiarize others on the AS400 system. He was instrumental in helping me reconfigure all of our items and we worked together every year on the physical inventories. We even shared the same birthdate on our monthly acknowledgement board. I know how he enjoyed those trips to Canada and I am happy you decided on that spot for his remains. He leaves a big void for all of us here and will truly be missed.
    With heartfelt sympathy, Karen.

    Dear Kathy & Brandt,

As one of 27 Minden cousins, I have many, many fond childhood memories of times spent with David and Gary. Cousin Dave was loved by all of us and we will all miss him dearly; especially at our Minden reunions.
God bless and keep you and Brandt, and give you strength.
    Love……..Don & Kathy

    Kathy,
My heart aches for you, Brandt and all your family and friends whose lives Dave touched so deeply. Although we rarely see you and Dave anymore, when we do it always feels like time has barely passed. I will miss Dave’s sense of humor and kind heart.
As Yum mentioned, that fateful night when you and Dave “hooked up” will forever be one of my fondest memories of both you and Dave.

Keep those who love you very close and let them help you during this very tragic time.

With hearfelt sympathy, Lynn and Katherine

    Hi Guys,
I know that we talk daily but I wanted to leave a note here for you to have as a reminder of how much we loved Dave. Specific memories that will only mean something to you: The swimming pool, the car broke down (or out of gas), Cable in the garage, painting the deck and in turn having to trim the thorn (razor) bushes, the rides in the wagon, Dave explaining to Remington what the bucket was for in Canada, The daily tomato check, skydiving videos and not least of all Dave’s famous spinach dip. You won’t be alone in this walk. We’re here.
    Much, much love our friends

Kathy, Brandt, Gary Minden, & other family, friends, & loved ones

Dave was one of my dearest frinds growing up. We had been friends since 7th grade. We were teamates year round (football, baseball, & basketball.) Dave was one of my roomates in college & 2 years after college. We were very close during those years, shared many experiences, feelings, and great times together. I always admired Dave & had a deep love & respect for him. He was a tremendous athlete, a smart and gifted student, a very honest, hard working, friendly, giving, caring man. But most of all, he gave me a deep friendship, excepted me with all my faults & shortcomings. I will miss him terribly.
Kathy, You made Dave very happy, he wrote to me about how happy he was to be with you. He loved you & Brandt very much. I am glad you two became his family. He was very happy having both of you. You were the best thing that ever happened to him.
Brandt, Dave loved you so much. I am sorry you lost your dad at such a young age. God bless you, I am so sorry.

  23. Lisa Horner Franciskato on January 23rd, 2009 9:35 pm

    Kathy & Brandt,
Words can’t express how very sorry I am for your loss. When Yum told me it broke my heart. Though our get togethers were fewer than I would like I always enjoyed visiting with you both at Yum & John’s house. Remeber that you have an abundance of friends that love you and are there for you. You are in our prayers.
    Love, Lisa & David

    Dear Leggs,

So good to talk to you Wednesday evening. Hope you’re holding up as well now! I know it will be a rocky road from here, so when you need me, call me, anytime at all. I’ll be there with you, always, but I hope you already know that!

Dave was a wonderful man! I will miss him. Guess I should stop talking (or writing!) now. My heart still hurts, for you and for Brandt.

    Love,
Nancy (Luns, or was that lungs?)

  27. Marci Hanson Meeks on January 24th, 2009 7:29 am

Kathy, I am so thankful that through our sisterhood of Kappa that one of ours was able to let us all know about David. I am sad with everyone that he was taken from you at such a young age. I loved the last time we were together in Lawrence at Karen’s home, hearing about David and Brandt. It was so obvious how much you loved him and how he loved you. I grieve with you and will remember you in my prayers. May God Bless you tomorrow with celebration of the life He gave you both for a time and may the “peace that passes all understanding” give you comfort and strength. In His Love, Marcia

  31. Susan Blankenship on January 27th, 2009 9:19 pm

Kathy – How very ironic that my Dave and I were just talking about your Dave last week – we were trying to work out the Minden family relationships, and the Paola connections we never knew about in high school. I got an e-mail from Cindy Dubbert Metcalf or I would never have known about Dave’s passing. I am so sorry to hear it, but it is evident from all the postings that the two of you had a wonderful life together – albeit too short. Dave was always one of the people I wanted to find at school reunions – he will be missed.
    Susan and Dave B.

  32. Cindy Turnbull Hageman on January 28th, 2009 7:52 pm

    Dear Kathy and family,
My heart is so sad for you right now. The loss of a spouse is something I can’t comprehend, but I know it must be so, so hard.
I want you to know that I am praying that God will give you a supernatural peace and comfort and strength. He is there for you all the time. If you need anything, let me know. In the meantime, I’ll keep you in my prayers.
    Love and Loyally, Cindy
