Janice Ruth (Crowe) Holt

Janice Ruth (Crowe) Holt, age 62, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at her home in Shawnee, Kansas. She was born March 5, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, but lived most of her life in Kansas City, Kansas.    Janice retired from Kmart after 40 years of service in June 2008.   She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Albert and Mary Ruth Crowe.  

She is survived by her children Sheryl Holt, Tarpon Springs, Florida and Crissy Fitzgerald, Palm Harbor, Florida; five siblings, Larry Crowe, Dennis Crowe, Dave (Michael) Crowe, Terri Rogers, and Jeff Crowe; three grandsons Connor McBride, Tanner & Jacob Fitzgerald; four nephews, three nieces, two great-nephews, two great-nieces and a great-great nephew.    Her smile and laughter will be missed by all.

A gathering of her friends and family will be at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, Wednesday, October 29, 2008 between 4:30-6:00 pm.

Leona M. Nutt

October 22, 2008

Leona M. Nutt, 84, of Shawnee, Ks passed away Oct. 22, 2008. She is survived by her daughters; Shirley Strick and Barbara Boyd and by her son Benny Nutt. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a sister Katie Faye Gibson, and brothers Jack Russell and Ray Russell.

Visitation and Funeral Service
A visitation will be held at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee on Sunday from 3 to 5 PM. With a service at 11 AM Monday, also at the funeral home. Followed by burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Nicholas Otto Mittenfelner

October 22, 2008

Nicholas Otto Mittenfelner passed away October 22, 2008, in Pahrump, Nevada.  Nick was born June 13, 1936, to Isabelle and Joseph Mittenfelner in Lenexa, Kan. Nick worked for Safeway Foods for 25 years then co-owned and operated Sharon’s Country Inn in Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Then he owned and operated 39th Street Carpentry Shop in Kansas City, Missouri. For the last several years he had raised Siberian Huskies at his home in Pahrump.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers, Matthew and Siegund Mittenfelner; and by a grandson, Mathew Baxter.  Nick is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home; children, Nicholas J. Mittenfelner of Omaha, Nebraska, Janet Mittenfelner of Overland Park, Kansas, Marcia Sladek of Pahrump, Nevada, Margie Baxter of Overland Park, and Curtis Stevens of Gainsville, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Isabelle Sanabria of Kirkland, Wash., Veronica Mittenfelner of Shawnee, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, and by nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Service

A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.  Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.

Elinor L. Rini

October 20, 2008

Elinor L. Rini, 88, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Lakeview Village Care Center, Lenexa, Kansas.

Elinor was born June 6, 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri to Roy A. and Marguerite (Richardson) Roush. She was an administrative assistant for Shasta Beverage and was once a singer in a country band. She loved chocolates, animals and was an avid weather watcher, charting the weather every day. Elinor’s favorite meteorologist was Gary Lezak. She was also known for her comments such as, “I’m as healthy as a puppy” and “That’s no boloney Tony”. Elinor was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Rini in 2003. Survivors include her brother, Alvin Roush, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and special friends, Timothy and Karen Cowick and their children, Kevin and Jenny, Shawnee, Kansas.

Robert Michael LaCerte

Robert Michael LaCerte, 46, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Overland Park, Kansas.  Robert was born March 12, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri to Gerald and Joyce LaCerte.  He was a 1980 graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and was in the United States Navy. 

The family would like to thank the VA Hospital in Kansas City for the care.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Edna L. Billings

Edna L. Billings, 96, Shawnee, Kansas,  passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents Robert George and Mary Ellen Wiley, two brothers Robert G. Wiley, Walter W. Wiley, one  son in law Richard Inlow. Survivors include one daughter Nancy Inlow, Shawnee, one son Robert (Chris) Billings, Shawnee,  two grandchildren Amy Billings, Overland Park, Kansas. Carrie (Doug) Redway, Tampa, Florida, two step-grandchildren Scott (Kris) Inlow, Basehor, Kansas, Windy (Rich) Lane, Basehor, six step-great-grandchildren Travis, Courtney, and Dalton Inlow, all of Basehor, Kirstin, Tyler, and Cale Lane, all of Basehor.

Edna was a member of the Berean Baptist Church, and retired from Van’s Food Center in 1975 where she was employed as a cashier for 20 years.

Charlotte Viseur Davis

October 18, 2008

Charlotte Viseur Davis, 78, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House. 

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Jack H. Davis and by her beloved dog Tina Marie. Survivors include many loving friends who will miss her. Charlotte retired from TWA Airlines after 34 years of faithful service and has been a member of St. Luke’s Epispocial Church of Shawnee for the past 12 years.

Vincent Eugene Bauman, Sr.

Vincent Eugene Bauman, Sr., 75, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 17, 2008 at Menorah Medical Center.

Vince was born on March 17, 1933 in Falls City, Nebraska to William and Violet Mae Bauman.  He is survived by his wife Margaret Bauman, three daughters Debbie (Ron) Koelsch of Great Bend, Kansas, Patty Capper of Kansas City, Missouri, Shirley Bauman of Olathe, Kansas and two sons Vince (Paula) Bauman, Jr. of Overland Park, Bill (Darla) Bauman of Tolono, Illinois, one brother Dennis (Linda) Bauman of Falls City, Nebraska and two sisters, Evelyn Bast of Lisby, Maryland, Joan Wilson of Lexington Park, Maryland, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2008 with a Rosary recitation at 6:00 p.m., at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A prayer service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the chapel.  Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.

Howard E. Woodward

October 16, 2008

Howard E. Woodward, 90, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Sweet Life of Rosehill. 

Howard was born October 13, 1918 on the banks of the Waukerusa River near Clinton, Kansas.  He was the fifth child of Carl and Helen Woodward, a pioneer couple.  Howard had the usual boyhood life on the farm, with lots of hard work.  He graduated 8th grade from a one room school house.  He left the shelter of his home at the age of 16 to work his way through Lawrence High School.  Howard enlisted in the Kansas National Guard as a Private at the age of 18.  In 1939 Howard enrolled as an Engineering student at the University of Kansas.  He had to interrupt his studies in 1940 to serve on active duty with the United States Army for six years, including two years in the European Theater.  He met his wife of 53 years, Mary Springer, in 1942.  Howard was wounded in 1944, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  His last assignment on active duty was as the Commanding Officer of a German Prisoner of war camp in Naples, Italy.  

After being separated from active duty as a First Lieutenant, Howard returned to K.U. and completed his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering in 1949.  During his career as an engineer, he served as President of MidAmerica Rubber Co., Vice President of J.B. Supply Co., Director of Engineering of Eskridge Engineering Co., Senior Engineer at Steel of Olathe Manufacturing Co.  and served at a Technical Sales Engineer for Gates Rubber Co. of Denver for thirty years.  Howard also enjoyed a lengthy career as a Reserve Officer before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1972.  His last duty station was as an instructor of Officers Career Course and Command and General Staff subject. 

He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Member of Disabled American Veterans Wyandotte County Memorial Chapter #1, the American Legion, and the Reserve Officers Association.  He was a leader of several community organizations most noteworthy, Bishop Miege Boosters Club, who constructed the Miege Football Stadium under his leadership.  His devotion to family and friends are a mark of his honor.  His standard answer to a cry for help was “No problem, Let’s do it!”

Visitation will be 10 am to 12 noon Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon at the Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. 

Gloria Lucille Collier

October 15, 2008

Gloria Lucille Collier, age 82 of Shawnee, Kansas passed away October 15, 2008.

She was born February 6, 1926 in Chula, Geogia to Nicholas and Tommy Ruth Womack. Gloria was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park, Kansas where she served for many years on the hospitality committee.  She was also a past president of the Shawnee Historical Society.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 63 years Clinton P. Collier Jr., her three children: Charlene Richardson, Kathy Wade, and Clinton P. “Chip” Collier III, by seven grandchildren: Denise, Kari, Steven, Erica, Ashley, Clint, & Alex and two great-grandchildren: Rebecca & Alicia.   Gloria is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Livingston and Martha Partin. Gloria lived her life for her family.  She loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  Gloria will be remembered most for her loving, teaching ways & most of all for being a friend and caretaker to all.
