Janet Sharp

Janet Sharp, 83, of Kansas City, Mo. formerly of Shawnee passed away Oct. 31, 2008.

Janet was born May 5, 1925 in Port Washington, NY to Walter and Mary Liveright Ross.She was a graduate of George Madison University in West Virginia.  And was united in marriage to her husband of 41 years, Newell Sharp.

Janet devoted a lot of her time to volunteer work, including time with the Shawnee Mission School District.  She was a proud member of the Hillcrest and Community Christian Churches Choir, singing soprano.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband Newell, also by a granddaughter Nicki Smith in 1993.

She is survived by her son Jim Sharp and wife Jackie, by her grandchildren; Jana Green and husband Rusty, Missy Lamons and husband Jason, Mike Sharp and fiancé Jenny, Deanna & Renee Sharp.  By four great grandchildren; Ronnie & Brooklyn Green and Rese & Maggie Lamons.  She is also survived by her sister Margaret Tubbs and her husband Fred of Delmar, NY, and by many other family members and friends.

Memorial donations in Janet’s memory may be made in lieu of flowers to Good Shepherd Hospice. 

Visitation and Funeral Service

Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.  A Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 PM also at the funeral home.

Marietta Willson

October 30, 2008

Marietta E. Willson (1929 – 2008) passed October 30th at Kansas City Hospice House. 

A lifelong resident of Shawnee, Kansas, and owner and operator of Marietta’s Old Fashioned Florist, she was preceded in death by her beloved Don, and her grandson, Chance Bennett.  Marietta is survived by her sister Margaret Maurer of Stockton, Missouri, her children, Linda Stainbrook, Tom Vandeputte, Rick Vandeputte, Donna Bennett and Donald L. Willson, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House are welcomed, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 3, 2008 from 6-8 p.m.  A celebration of her life will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home, Shawnee, Kansas on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 10:00 am

Brenda Beck

October 28, 2008

Brenda K. Beck, 58, Merriam, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  

Ms. Beck was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Allen, and brother-in-law John Burroughs. Survivors include the following: father, Buford J. Allen, Merriam, Kansas, one sister, Margaret Burroughs, Merriam, Kansas, and her beloved nephew Ron Wilkins, Merriam, Kansas, as well as numerous family, friends and nurses. Ms. Beck attended Pittsburg State University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in economics and fashion merchandising in 1973.  She was employed by the Xerox Corporation as a marketing representative at the time of her death. She is a member of Open Door Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Holly Ann Roan

Holly Ann Roan was born March 30, 1963 in Willits, California to Wayne and Carol Heldman. She entered into rest Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was a lifelong resident of Shawnee, Kansas.

Holly was an active member of Antioch Family Worship Center Church.

She was passionate about spending time with loved ones, gardening, music, and reading. Holly was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Heldman. She is survived by three children: Joshua Roan, Amber Roan, and Logan Becken; of Shawnee, Kansas. She also is survived by her mother, two brothers, two sisters, and many friends, by her mother Carol Rice of Gladstone, Missouri; sister Cindy Stephens of Independence, Missouri; brother Dean Heldman of Frisco, Texas; sister Brenda Lewis of KansasCity, Missouri; and brother Kevin Heldman of Daytona Beach, Florida

Joan Sandberg

October 27, 2008

Joan B. Sandberg, 84, of Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2008 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa. Joan was born March 13, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was married to Stewart W. Sandberg, Jr.; he preceded her in death on December 22, 2003. Joan attended Wheaton College, and received her first MS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and her second Masters of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She served as a librarian at the Reformed Presbyterian Seminary as well as the Calvary Bible College. Joan was a member of the Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA. She enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing. Joan is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Hall, and her husband Robert, Sarasota, FL.; a son, Stephen S. Sandberg, Prairie Village, KS a brother H. Stanley Baldwin, Overland Park, KS., a granddaughter, Rachel Case, and a grandson Jeremy Hall, both of Chicago, IL. The family would like to thank the staff of Lakeview Village for the wonderful care and compassion they received during Joan’s’ stay and requests memorials are made to Lakeview Village, 9100 Park, Lenexa, Kansas 66215, in lieu of flowers.

Dorothy Adams

Dorothy M. Adams (Tots), 83, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Chief Warrant Officer Thomas Edward Adams, two sisters Rita Wurtenberger, Mary Ziegler, and one brother George Jacob Ziegler Jr. Dorothy is survived by a son Michael and wife Kimberly Adams of Lenexa, KS. and a grandson Ian Michael Adams. Dorothy was employed by Jostens formally Artex Manufacturing for 23 years working in accounts receivable. She is also a longtime member of Daughters of Isabella.

Patricia Klein, 55, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House.  Patricia was born in Kansas City, MO. She is survived by her father, Harold “Bud” Klein, of Merriam, KS; a brother, Steven and his wife, Betty, of Basehor, Kansas and a niece, Gypsy Murdock, of St. Louis, Missouri

Patricia A. (Stewart) Kuhn

Patricia A. (Stewart) Kuhn, Shawnee, Kansas passed away at home Sunday, October 26, 2008 surrounded by her family.

Patricia was born December 11, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Mary (Raney) Stewart. She was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School and St. Teresa College (Avila) where she obtained her B.S. degree in Medical Technology MT(ASCP) in 1958. Her career started at the Community Blood Bank but she continued as a devoted mother, wife, daughter and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jimmy and granddaughter, Miriam Ann. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Mike; her sons, Thomas and John (Thomasin) Kuhn; her daughters, Katie Dade and Corine (Robert) Lyons; her siblings, Michael Stewart, Karen Seago, Collene O’Dower, Monica Meyers and Robert Stewart. Nieces and nephews include David, Elish, Maggie, Benny, Molly, Andy, Brian, Erin, Patrick, Annie, Danny, Beth, Dennis, Chris, Amy, Brett, Mark, Eric and Jeff. Grandchildren include Josh, Patty, Billy, Aaron, Daniel, Valerie, Luke, Joseph, Hanavan, Noah and Lydia. Her extended family include Mary Ann Stewart, Alyanna Lyons and Dawn Kuhn all of whom she loved and was loved.

Marian L. Gillapp

Marian L. Gillapp, 87, Shawnee, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  

Marian was born Sept. 20, 1921 in Kansas City, KS to William R. and Louise (Herman) Kemp. She was a 1939 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Marian was a retail clerk at A&P Grocery Stores for 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Gillapp. Survivors include her two sons, Richard L. Hathorne and wife, Mary Jo, Shawnee, KS and Kenneth G. Gillapp, Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

William Kirk Matlock

William Kirk Matlock, 51, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Grandview, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. 

Kirk was born May 19, 1957 to Charles and Ruth Ann Matlock at St. Margarets Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.  He graduated from Grandview Senior High School in 1975.  After high school Kirk went to work for Herff-Jones Yearbooks, as a machine operator, he worked for them for over 30 years.  He loved, music and enjoyed supporting local aspiring musicians.  Kirk is survived by his parents, a loving wife, Brenda Burch, two sons, David Christopher Matlock, Overland Park, Jeffery Allen Matlock, of the home, a daughter, Leslie Shannon Matlock, also of the home, two sisters, Kathy Lynn Burman, Ottawa, Kansas, and Kristine K. Matlock, and her husband Rich Godbold, Lawrence, Kansas.  Kirk was preceded in death by a sister, Kelly Ann Seabolt.  

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be Thursday, Octoaber 30, from 6-7 p.m, followed at 7 p.m. by a Celebration of Life service at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
